Hi everyone,

I am organising a wargaming convention in South Australia over the Easter long weekend. Two days of gaming and Easter eggs set in one of the world's best wine districts, McLaren Vale!

There will be a hall full of historical games and a smattering of sci-fi and fantasy too, including Lord of the Rings. I'll be bringing some of my terrain down too, so if you were interested in replaying the Attack at Weathertop scenario or assaulting the Gates of Edoras on my terrain pieces (see the Article Library), then mark the dates in your calendar!

23rd and 24th of April 2011
McLaren Vale Bocce Club,
Park Drive
McLaren Vale
South Australia
Contact: dagorlad@one-ring.co.uk
Website: http://www.ozhistorycon.com

Entry is $5 per adult
Children under 12 are free
Flames of War Tournament entry price is yet to be determined

YESSSSSSSS!!!! I am SO there! :D

Thanks for the heads up! 8) It'll be a good excuse to drag the old man down to McLaren Vale to get some more red wine.
:-D

Yeah, me too.

One question though, is the LOTR part of the convention going to be more WOTR-oriented, or more SBG?
Also, what other terrain are you bringing? :)

I just learned that the guy who was going to run the Lord of the Rings game has pulled out due to work commitments over Easter, which is a huge shame. Now I have to find someone else who will take that on and run a LOTR game. While there will be a heap of other games on during the show, I really wanted to showcase some LOTR since it's my first and biggest gaming passion.

I'll be bringing down Weathertop and the gatehouse of Edoras still though, but it looks like they'll be static displays - I'll be too busy running around and making sure everything is running smoothly to actually sit down and play a game.

I'm also bringing down two tables that some friends of mine will be running games on, Jurassic Reich and Strange Seas;

Jurassic Reich is a Weird War II game where the Nazis have discovered a way to bring dinosaurs back from the past, and Strange Seas is a pirate game where you have to gather a band of men and explore an island seeking for the Fountain of Youth. Here are some photos of the objective markers for Strange Seas:

And the castle and grounds for Jurassic Reich:

Man! will I be happy when this week has passed!!!

The show is about as organised as I can possibly make it. The games are locked in (around 20 tables worth of rolling dice, plus a few display tables), the traders are booked, we'll even have some re-enactors walking around in uniform! We have a trophy for the best table of the show and a raffle with around $700 worth of prizes on offer. I'm still stressing out though, but my head is telling me it'll be ok.

I'm sure it's going to be a great weekend and the weather is forecast for sun and clear skies! So make sure you come on down to say g'day and have a look at the best gaming that South Australia can offer.

Make sure you come to Little Wars in Melbourne next year - I usually try to put on something spectacular, but I'm generally out-done by a few other tables each year!

Sounds like a cool idea! The show is in Melbourne each May, but not this year unfortunately. They're having some trouble with the venue and are looking for a new place to hold it in 2012.

Make sure you catch me on the weekend and we'll see what we can do for next year!

I'll try and post some photos during the event too, so people can see what we are up to in sunny South Australia (please don't rain again today).

Dave, next time you're in Aussieland, let me know and I'll set the castle up for a game.

Mr Dagorlad,
Congratulations! A damn fine show, very, very well done. :yay: Lots to see, and lots to buy.
Sadly, as you mentioned, no LotR but some nice games going on. I particularly liked your Jurassic Reich and the Pirate table.
Sooooo, where are these Black Gate plans eh? :P

cheer
Greg.

MAOL (do it in a Yoda voice).

Good luck with getting them done by June Greg!!!

Mate, it was great to see you there and all the lads from Group North that turned up. I was disappointed that there was no Lord of the Rings too, but, well, when you finish your Black Gates, I expect to see it there next year. Thanks for coming down and I hope you had a lot of fun today. The two tables were pretty popular, but I have suspicion they won't win the best table award oddly enough. There were a few fans of the English Civil War game in the room, so maybe Marcus will take the trophy this year.

I've been trying my hardest to get two armies finished in time for the tourney in June (in between organising a convention), but it turns out I'll be heading overseas a few days after that so I'm going to have to pull out of the tourney. But never mind, I'll be up at GN in early May, so we'll catch up again soon.
