I recently started playing again because a friend convinced me too.

I decided to build an Easterling army as I just love how they looked in the movies (despite not seeing them much) and in GW miniatures. I have tried many different setups but the one I used most recently and effectively was:

warband 1
Amdur, Lord of Blades mounted
4 Kataphrakts with black dragon
4 pike and shield
4 sword and shield

warband 2
Easterling Captain
4 pike and shield
4 sword and shield

warband 3
orc captain (aiming for Grishnakh at the moment but not sure if he can ally with easterlings)
8 orcs with spears

sadly not 100% sure on point costs as i dont own the new FR rule book

any thoughts to improving. I dont play with bows as I find them ineffective unless xbows, elven or rangers.

With the new books released all evil armies can ally each other, the same for good

Hi, I play Easterlings too!
Your army is solid and strong, though I recommend removing the black dragons, taking a War priest instead of the 2nd captain...
And finally, the last warband should be Easterlings with bows and a captain with bow.

P.S The points cost hasn't changed, although the Dragon Knights cost 10 points more now. Hope I don't get banned coz of that...

1) you can edit your posts =p

2) Just blatently listing all the info on a profile is frowned upon. We have to list points for our lists, no getting around that.

What is the benefit of a captain with a bow. I usually find it to be the most ineffective use of points.

I have thought about using a warpriest, i just dont have one at the moment. I like have the black dragons as cavalry because for the most part it lets them take out infantry a bit easier due to a higher fight

Easterling pikes now cost the same as oher pikes and spears if that helps.

Don't bother with allies unless you like the theme, eg you like Grishnakh, but evil has no use for allies as all the lists are complete in that way.

Easterling Captains with bow are useful to lead an all-bow warband.

As they are pikes they can support with 2 right?

And due to GW not giving you more than 4 pikes per box of 20 easterlings I was complementing a formation using orc spears then pikes.

Yes, they can support in 2 ranks behind the front guy as with other pikes, they just an use shields as well as pikes and are no longer overcharged for them.

You should convert some of your swordmen into pikemen using the drill hole in hand and place rod spear method.

Not a bad idea, might give it a shot! Thanks

One army my friend just smashes we with is his shade army. I'm literally out of ideas on how to deal with it.

Shade army? Why would you have more than one Shade? They don't overlap abilities.

No no it's only one shade, a cave drake (or he runs 2 cave trolls) , and a decent amount of goblins with durburz

Oh, does he combo the Shade with the Blackshield drum as well, and have a Shaman next to Durburz? That's one nasty list, Cave Drakes used to be overpoweered too, but now with M/W/F and a pts increase, they aren't overpowered anymore.

He runs alot of variations with blackshields, doesnt really run a shaman ever though. It just sucks to fight against.

Prowlers are worse than Blackshields, all those throwing weapons, and the Shade and Drake together cost as much as an empty Mumak so its a lot of pts.

I dont find the drake that much of an issue IF I can prevent it doing lots of damage through positioning. The thing that gets me is the shades aura.

The Shade can be hit 3 times with a volley.

And now I see the benefit of having some archers!

Aye, taking out the pesky Shade, or at the very least wounding it, would be worth it. Archery can be very potent in SBG, if you use it right.

Shades are brutal, and one of my least favorite models out there- mainly because they make any evil army become a force capable of stopping almost any good equivalent (excepting archers). But, as Gothmog says, there are ways around them- when you get the chance, down it, and do it fast.

Do you like Dragon Knights?
