Personally, I like the Black Guard, as the models look decent and are the heaviest of troops that Mordor can get. But that's my opinion on the matter.

Just like dwarves and elves, which is why I like them.

Then it's safe for me to say that the +2 Strength isn't worth the extra points? I'd rather have the extra bodies on the field?

Is 6 BN/BGoB-d with 6 Morannon Orcs w/ Spears the correct ratio? Should I always fill my Warband numbers out?

You should strive to have as many spearmen as swordsmen (imo). Though it is not necessary, and in some cases inadvisable. The extra strength is worth the extra points, it is simply a case of Black Numenoreans are better because they are less expensive than they ought to be, comparatively speaking.

OP, why do you insist on using Morannon spearmen?

All cavalry can do well, but you need to playthem well. Morgul Knights for instance need magic and moght.

Spear support is necessary because every other army, save Dwarves, Rohan or a really bad list would use them, and you need to get as many men in each fight as possibke, and its easier with spears, as models in the centre cannot possibly get 2(you) on 1(them), or 2(you) on 2(them), unless you have spear support.

My dwarf army has several spears in it and a lot of defense nine guys :)

I don't necessarily, but I have a serious aversion to playing (what I consider) ugly models. The Morannon Orcs are pretty bad, but not as bad as the regular Orc Warriors. That's the only reason. Well, not true. I really like higher defense models. The only reason I'm not playing Dwarves is that another player in my group beat me to them. :)

Why do you ask?

Since the fight and strength (and special rules like poison) of a spearman play no role, it is generally adviseable to go fo the cheapest spearmen available to your army list. If you do use Morannon Orcs for spearmen though, you should give them all shields, so you don;t loose your expensive spearmen too easily.

@Ellethorn, do you mean you use Vault Wardens? Well Dwarves don;t need spear support to win though, they're all undercosted.

I agree with Gothmog- give the morannon orcs shields, then, if you need the extra strength, put them into the fray as well- they can be highly useful in that capacity.

Regarding fellbeasts... I have had no problem using 2 of them at even 500 points. They are outstanding so long as you dont mistake a capable combat profile with a combat hero. You dont want them fighting at all really, although, when the time and situation is right they are fantastic for charging them into shatterpoints to tip the balance or to finish off that transfixed hero. Since they have superior movement and usually enough might for that one crucial heroic move, etc., they are fantastic.

... Use it as a "cheap troll".... well... thats why they fail for alot of people.

As this game is based much more on the films than book, I will ask you how much butt you remember them kicking in the movies. Lets see... they were defeated by some fire on a stick... by some water... by a really bright light... and though the fellbeasts themselves did pick up few dudes that werent looking in their talons and killed a few jabronis that way, the mightiest of them all was killed by a hobbit and a cross-dressing girl.

Ok, there was Theoden... For the sake of this argument I would say Theoden was an old man who spent the movies either being "wormtongued", crying about being doomed or showing up late to battles.

(ok so maybe I dont really believe that whole last part, lol)

@Strombole- Hmm... 2 at 500 pts? How do you use them? That seems over-bold for the potential payout.
