Black Numenoreans should cost 10pts without the upgrade really, they are too cheap, so 11pts for the +1 is reasonable.

But against similarily undercosted elves, the +2 isn't worth it.

I did not say that it was advisable, just merely, in my opinion, worth it to have regular warriors that can go toe to toe with elves.

Was at a tournament last sunday. The army worked fairly well but I placed middle of the pack ironically tying with another easterling player with a very similar army composition.

How do you think that it could have gone better?

As we entered the day before because the tourny my mate and I were going to got cancelled due to numbers we played different scenarios so I didnt have as good familiarity with them. It was also a 600 pt tourny so i had to tweak my 500 pt list
I played 4 games
In the first I vsd a knights of dol amroth army. I feel i lost due to khamul dying to imrahil in the first combat... imrahil called a heroic then charged into khamul killing him that turn. Amdur was doing well but truth was loosing khamul that early really took some power out of my force.
Second game i won just from out flanking a line of dwarves and then hitting them hard with amdur and khamul.
Third game was against an abrakahn guard army with the golden king, 2 spectres and an upgraded dragon. My army lost badly due to deployment but seeing this I won the match by playing the scenario (domination) well.
Last game was insanely close vs an army of elves, legolas, ramul and thranduil. The throwing weapons hurt me so badly but after being kited through trees khamul finally got there and smashed face. In the end I think that game came down to a bit of luck more than tactics (and fight 6 elves).

Please excuse poor grammar or spelling mistakes im typing with a broken hand in a cast it's both slow and difficult

I've been working with my lists changing some things around and I played a relatively fun army of 600pts

warband 1
Amdur mounted (115)
8 pikes (80)

warband2
haradrim taskmaster (60)
6 watchers of karna with bows (60)
6 harad spears (42)

warband 3
golden king (115)
10 black numenoreans with castellan (110)
2 harad spears (14)

might: 7
pts: 596

I had thought about using the dwimmerlaik to hurt their heroic actions while freeing up my might to get kills or call more later depending on the dice rolls

Drop the Catellan Upgrade, if you have to get one, get Venomblad, but don't bother with either. Each of the Harad warband should have 6 melee troops and 6 spearmen, you should aim to give some spearmen a bow as well. Then the pike should ve as they are. Will return.

Why drop Catellan out of curiosity? Two points for a F5 unit sounds pretty good as it can toe to toe with lots of heroes as well as most of the elves. Venomblade sounds less useful than that.

I do see the purpose of having 6 spears per Harad warband. However I was going to use a shield wall of BNs then Harad spears followed by Easterling pikes.

The Golden King is there to hopefully remove a key hero once I break the enemy force but has the added bonus of preventing charges onto BNs.

Originally I was going to use AbraKhan merchant guard but because of chop I thought I would support with spears but that means I can't use their two hander which seems like a waste.

Personally, I like the castellen upgrade, mainly because my evil armies have spent most of their lives fighting elves. But that's just me. Others hold the opinion that the two points make it too expensive as well as unnecessary- but if used correctly it makes for some nice combat troops.
