My table is 4' x 6' x 1/2" MDF cut in half to 2x6.
The disadvantage of MDF is it won't hold nails or wood screws for that mater so you won't be able to attach the hardware that comes with the folding legs I recommended. The two 2'X6' as sections has the advantage of fitting the small car. So would three 2'X4' sections.
One of my portable tables at my new house. 10 will fit in my pick up truck
An old photo of the game table at my old house. It is a box built from two 1/2" 4'X6 plywood sheets and two 2"X6" X12"s. The top sheet was cut into three 2'X4' sections so that I could use the inside of the box for storage. It rest on metal map files.
I don't build permanent boards for my self any more. They are just to hard to store and transport. I use table covers and modular terrain.
