Looking really solid there mate! If I may, a nice wash would really make it pop especially on the armour.

So, what are your plans now? Are you doing a Goblin force or did you simply get the Mines of Moria starter?

Looking good pal. You seem to be good at getting the paint in the right spot. Now, the next step involves shading and highlighting.

That's a great first model - well done. It looks like there is no sand over the tab of the model where it goes into the base. Did you do the base before painting the model? You'll find the base looks better if you attach the model to base first and then do your sand - it will hide any joins.

thank you all for the responses! and I love the new theme of the site by the way.

I did used Devlam Mud Wash on it but not much. How should I highlight or shade the armour exactly? And yes I bought the Mines of Moria since I was already going to start a new Moria army and wanted to get the fellowship too and the deal was way too cheap in my local GW shop

Now you say it I can sort of see the wash on his back... perhaps it needs to be a slightly heavier wash to make it more visible

At this level i would probably recomend drybrushing.
To drybrush, get some paint that is slightly lighter than your base colour on your brush, wipe some of it off on a tissue then gently drag the brush over the area that you want to drybrush. The result should be lighter paint on the raised areas to give the model more depth.

I got some different shades of green to use for drybrushing and got bedab black wash, I think it's stronger than the devlan mud. Will be back with results

Thats a really good first model, you might wanna try mixing the two (devlan mud & badab black), IMO it gives the armor a better look then one of the two would

I would add rust to the archer's armour, darkening the leg and body armour and brightening the helmet.

Drybrushing with a rusty colour to do it?

Drybrushing would create rust on raised areas and thats not where the rust would be. I use vermin brown and highlight (drybrush) with chainmail to make it look like the rust wears off, did it on this horse.

For your first miniature, it's looks pretty nice! Good job and finish him nicely.

Really nice and clean painting.

To get a slightly rusty look on Goblin armour I use Tin Bitz (now Warplock Bronze I think) with a dry brush of Bolt Gun Metal (now Leadbelcher).

Very neat work. The first step to making a model look good is being neat and you've achieved that admirably. You're also using washes too, which is a great way to add some depth to the colour of your mini - you can see that in the skin tones. An excellent start, well done!
