Hey Folks,

I have a question concerning basing. (I hope to be in the right part of the Forum with it ^^). I bought a pack of scatter grass today (colour like this: http://www.modellbahnwelt24.de/bilder/p ... -g-Z-G.jpg)
Until now I used simple flocking to green my bases. I want to go to a more realistic look now though.. and I dont want to glue this grass criss-cross onto the base.
Do you have tips for me? How can I create tufts of grass? How do I make the grass stand upright etc...

Is this the same as static grass? If so, glue sand to the base with PVA (white glue). Paint the whole base a dark brown and highlight with a light grey or off-white. With some watered down PVA, dab a few fingertip sized spots at random onto the base - I find 5 spots about right.

Holding the model over a container to catch the excess, sprinkle over the grass until the base is totally covered. Then shake off the excess grass and turn the model upside down, tapping firmly on the base with your finger. This encourages the grass to stand up. Once you've done all your basing, return the excess grass to the bag for next time. When it dries, the white glue will turn clear and you'll just see rocks and clumps of grass.

Hope that helps. If this is a different kind of grass, would be interested to see the results.

Yep I'm pretty sure it's the same as static grass. Thank you very much for your (quite detailed) help! I'll let you know about the outcome. :)

One other thing. If you grab a a clump of the static grass and press it into the glue spot you get a much 'fuller' grass clump than if you just sprinkle the grass on it.

And applying grasses of different lengths helps too. If you only have one length for now, then now and then glue some one, trim it short, then when it dries add some more around it (will be longer). Don't need to do this on all models but on Heroes or Cavalry it helps.
