Wow, thanks so much guys! Its looking at all of your work that keeps making me raise the bar for myself.

Haha, indeed my display cabinet is getting rather full. I have to be over 500 minis in there by now, and I am sure I have well over 1000 still to paint!

A couple of updates. First is the Kings Huntsman from the Rohan Commanders set. Maybe not so much now, but when first painted him I thought he looked very similar to the Dos Equis "Most interesting man alive". I don't always kill Uruks, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis.

And my first Ebob spider. Lots of fun painting this guy. I was making some toast and saw a spider in the kitchen doorway that had a very similar color scheme, so I snapped some photos and went to work on this dude. I like how he came out. No base yet. They come with a 40 mm base, but I am going to order a bigger base and do a bit more with it, so more to come on that.

No photo of the toast? I'm disappointed
While the spiders of Middle-earth are evil, I am contemplating making the colour scheme a bit more realistic for some of mine. There are so many variations, some of them stunningly beautiful and very effective camouflage. Google and Bing image searches will give you a good idea of what I mean.

Great work, just taken delivery today of a fine pair of Argonaths, yours look great, can you tell did you prime them first? what type of paint did you use?

Hey Thanks a lot. I did indeed prime them. I would have either way, but the younger of the two arrived in pieces and I had to glue it back together and fill all the cracks with plaster. I used Chaos Black spray for the basecoat. For the painting I used Ceramcoat paints (just regular acrylic paints for painting ceramics). I used a mix of black and dolphin grey with progressively more grey for highlights and eventually added vanilla to the mix. Then at the suggestion of DMS, I took green (my equivalent of Dark Angels Green) and watered it way down. I then hit spots where water would accumulate and drip with that. It doesn't show overly well in the photos.

Hope that helps.

Harfoot, I have seen your work, I have no doubt yours will come out looking incredible!

Attached is my latest mini. I really wanted to try a new technique for painting lava (or magma) that I read about on the base, so I painted the orc captain to put on it. I figured that would fit in a Mordor environment.

I am going to put him up on CMON, so feel free to give it a vote if you have the chance.

My first thought on this was, he's showing off now ! More excellent work in next to no time it seems.
However I have to admit to being a little undecided on the base to be honest. There is no doubt it's a great idea and its always worth experimenting. Maybe the photo isn't the best, I'm just not 100% sure for some reason.
The pose on the figure is great, it's like he's getting ready to sink into the lava and the painting seems up to standard for what I can see.
Overall though Bill it's a wonderful idea and a very worthwhile experiment. Perhaps a lava style like this needed a much bigger base ?

I have a question? Is the orc hotfooting it toward the battle? :D

The lava is intriguing. The only possible problem is that it distracts from the orc as it is so bright and he is relatively dark. Maybe a bit of source lighting from below, from the glowing lava?
