Plain can mean normal or a big place with grass that is flat or so, so spellcheck can't notice that of course.
Is that board supposed to be in the real world, and if yes where?

It needs another coat of blue but it needs to be dry enough to flock today.

I painted the pine bark black. While it was still wet I over brushed it with a black and brown mix. While the paint was still damp I over brushed medium gray. I dry brushed that with dove gray then tan. I used a 4 inch wide paint brush. For the ground work I over brushed the black/brown with a red brown and then tan. The water is a color called true blue. I will do something else later.
I wanted to flock the table but ran out of time.

Tan over everything then true blue. I had to add another coat of blue after this photo was made.

I have several different things I can do with the water. I can sponge paint clouds on the surface and varnish the top coat. This works well for small scales and railroad lay outs.
I can also use resin.

I will need to repaint and add the islands and rocks first if I decide on that.
If I keep the water flat I can move the islands about, I will have to use black or a much darker blue if I decide on Woodland Scenic Realistic Water.

You've put this together so quickly and so well. It is clearly obvious you are a master at this type of thing. My hat is off to you.

Oh come now, you've taken AAAGES! Pull a finger out and get it done man!

:D:D

Absolutely loving the dry brushing effect on the pine bark. You've picked exactly the right shades. I've seen a lot of people do the same, and end up with a nice effect, but it still looks like dry brushed pine bark. Yours looks so much like stone that if I hadn't seen the WIP I would probably be squinting at the screen trying to work out what you'd used for a while!.

It'll be brilliant with the water effects. Can't wait!

I just got home from the movie and it is 4 am. I loved the Movie. I can not say how disappointed with the scenario map from this release after seeing the movie. :x I wish I had waited to start. May be the Chronicles III book will cheer me up.

I am going to flock the table Friday afternoon but I have completely lost my enthusiasm for the design.

I am just going to have to build a board with the Gate and cascade on it.

Film or no film it still looks like a pretty amazing gaming table from where I'm sitting. Can't wait to see it finished!

Anyway, with this as a particularly impressive practice run, imagine how outstanding the second version can be!

Charlie I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment, it is a fantastic board though and very credit worthy.

This table could also be used for the Uruk-hai and Gollum pursuing the Fellowship down the Anduin before they reached Rauros and Amon-Hen.
And maybe even for FOW river crossings?

Other useful scenario suggested by the club so far
For Legends of the Old West Gunfights at the Rio Grand from The Searchers, Major Dundee and Buffalo Bill,Wake Island Ambush for Bolt Action, Mike has and Idea for a scenario in Burma. The ACW group wants to use it for Ironclads. It looks like the Tennessee River at Chattanooga

I only have limited space. I see this as a lost opportunity.
