Hi guys. I was looking through army lists, and generally, I always try to play something I like, but also, something competitive. Like, I would never take Numenor even if I liked them, because there is so little to work with.

My question to you guys, just for kind of a fun topic, is what are some of the most uncompetitive looking armies youve ever seen do well or even excel on the table.

For example, Im in the process of making mostly Mahud army just because of how nice I think it will be and cool looking, but realistically, their cavalry is over coster, and their foot troops arent great. Ill probably end up having to tie in Harad but thats only because I simply dont have enough models to make even a 500 pt + army.....

Army of the dead

Against the right armies they are an absolute nightmare. Especially as they can have decent fiefdom heroes lead them

King of the dead, one more reason to make the nightmare complete :D

Yeah I thought about that and can imagine....I mean, against harad, mordor, etc the courage is usually 2 on base troops so they are wounding on what....3s or 4s most. But then if you play elves youre screwed.

Hit or miss.

Just them in general huh? Like the captains alone are very powerful thats what you mean right?

Not necessarily. You still wound High Elves with shields better than normally, and if you face Wood Elves, of course things get worse. But they still wound your troops on 6/4! So you really can't say you're screwed.
Warriors of the dead are awesome - wounding on courage, terror, very highdef and courage... They can even have axes without any cheese - their models have axes already. The only bad thingsabout them are high point cost and low fight value. But you can solve these issues with some kind of spear support - either cheap spears (fluffy Woses or less fluffy Lake townGuards) or spears with high fight (wood elves). I recommend both options. Army of the dead is awesome, sadly their king is not great - his ability is good, but he has no might and costs just far too much.

I just wonder, regarding the army of the dead are they limited to the king of the dead and 12 warriors ? becouse a far as I know there are no army of the dead captains or are there ?
I would feel that for an army of the dead to be in theme, it should be all ghosts..

They are in the Fiefdom armylist, so Duinhir, Forlong, Angbor, Imrahil and Skoda captains can lead them.

My understanding is that you are correct. They only have one hero, and he's named so can't be spammed.

However, as part of the Fifedoms army there's nothing stopping you taking troops lead by generic captains or heroes elsewhere on the list. Personally, I would proxy the miniatures for ghostly captains, or perhaps convert/paint the existing models accordingly.

Bats, spiders, the two named goblin shamans and wild wargs. They gave me hell. When used appropriately they are a nightmare.

to field the king of the death get alfred, he will give what the king´s desire most, more might points lol

Get army of the death man, pike support from man at arms (3 rank in file- 2 of them its fight 4 with defence 8 in front and terror, who dont like that?)

Want a nice semi competitive army of the dead army? they have mix however but nasty enough stuff around.

at 500 can be annoying to assemble though

warband 1
King of the death
2 warriors of the death with shield
5 dol amroth man at arms with pike

warband 2
Forlong the fat
3 warriors of the death with shield
5 dol amroth man at arms with pike

Warband 3
Duinhir
5 blackroot vale archers
2 riders of the death

Warband 4
Alfred

495pts
26 models: might 5 (alfred to buff whats needed)

Alfred just there to give the king of the death some might, even if you get 1 on dice you wont leech his might cause he got none and alfred will get a free might point, actually generating might in 1st attempt regardless, if you roll again and you get another 1, well you can use alfred might to add the score so you will never actually lose might to that..

i think king of the dead is pretty a bad choice (not in combination with alfrid but in general)

However, my personal experience is that fiefdoms are deadly as hell, i have won 3 matches in a row (vs mordor, dwarves, isengard) with the same army list including just 6 warriors of the dead.
Imrahil is also a beast with his banner range and so forlong is deadly aswell.
What is also surprising are blackroot vale archers + duinhir. They might not be the best with their low courage and fight but that re-roll is deadly vs monsters.
I once got down 1 mordor troll chieftain in 1 round, the same that he entered their range, with only 8 archers , they manage to cause 3 wounds + 1 (successful fate roll)
Duinhir also with a little bit of luck can 1 shot down a mordor troll or a fellbeast

Truly these guys are a bane to monsters

Fiefdoms!!!!!
