Got the chance to paint up Ultramarine Tigurius for a good friend of mines son for his 12th birthday. First 40K model I have ever painted in my life. Quite surprised at how much i enjoyed painting it although glad to be back in Middle earth again. Anyway I'm waffling again here we have Boromir in Space Marine armour ( :) )

I've added the model to my Cool Mini Or Not gallery and if you would like to then please click HERE to register a vote.

Thanks for looking.

I find the 40k models over-detailed and over-designed. What's your opinion on them?

Hi Jack - My honest opinion on the model (I can't speak for all 40K as I've never seriously looked at any other 40K model with a view to painting it other than this one) but yes anyway my honest opinion was when i opened the box and looked at the model in its unpainted state it gave me an instant headache!!!! I struggled to make out what was what on the model and found it really difficult to differentiate one part of the model from another. Once the base colours were on I enjoyed painting it more. But yes definitely a lot of detail on the model. As for over designed I'm not really in a position to comment as I don't know anything about the range or even the model itself. Up until a few days ago I had never heard of an Ultramarine and I thought a Librarian was someone you borrowed books from.

@Gene - thanks mate nice of you to say : )

Very nicely painted - I think I have an older version of this lying in a box or a drawer (white metal).

Yeah, I would love to see Kev's take on Darksword miniatures, especially the Song Of Ice And Fire (Game of Thrones) range.

Very nice Kev, your style certainly shines through on this one. That freehand is excellent.

You did a great job at catching the dark grittiness of the 41st millennium!

My only criticism is the blending of the cloak and back of the banner, you could really benefit from thinning the paints a bit more and building up the layers and colours with many thinner coats. Alternatively, a glaze would tie the colours together a bit more especially on the blue banner.

But very nice and I'm sure that Tyler will be more than happy! I know I would be! It has great character to it :)

Thanks guys :)

@Tim - Great C&C buddy I appreciate that. There were three areas of the model which i would like to have spent more time on. The first was the flames on the banner. The second and third were the cloth on the back of the banner and the clothing blend. Time restraints got the better of me as I had to get this guy posted in time for Tylers birthday. I did enjoy painting the model tho so we'll see what the future holds. There may yet be more from the 41st Millenium to come.

Thanks again.

I think it looks really good, I have only seen them in WD, never looked at any too close in person, and of the WD ones they were mostly Golden Demon stuff, so If your looking good with only that to compare to in my mind, can't be too bad then can it? I would like to see your take on some of the other Chapters cause some of those are pretty interesting, but don't rush away from the LOTR table just yet, there will be time for those when somebody is paying you for it.
