As a new goblin player I just need a little help with a few questions please
1. Does a moria shamans fury work on goblins from the hobbit
2. What are the new hobbit goblins armed with is it a case of 'what you see is what you get'
3 what's the best war gear to give a moria goblin ( bows don't seem to be a practical option anymore)
4 and final could I have a few suggestions on a effective 500 point army
Thanks

1. Yup! Fury always works with models of the same race.

2. It's what you see. Sometimes it's a bit difficult but there are some pictures in the rulebook which clarify what they are, there's a couple of picks, couple of axes, a flail, mainly daggers I think.

3. I still go for an even mix of spears and shields and then one warband of bows just so I have some range shooting,

4. Lots of goblins! King, scribe, captains.

Are you just fielding hobbit gobbos? If not, i recommend gundabad goblins. They're str 4!

Activate fury as soon as possible and be prepared to lose a lot of gobbos during a fight. Make a big army with lots of gobbos, fight, and win or lose expect most of your gobbos to die.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, i'm just trying to prepare you to be a goblin player. A friend of mine played goblins, but he never anticipated the demoralizing losses he would incur. Even after winning matches, he lost so many pieces he didn't "feel" like the victor. Just be mentally prepared to lose a lot of minis during a match.

I might be able to help with a effective 500 point army for goblins here is the army I normally take.

warband 1

cave drake

warband 2

goblin captain with shield

6 goblin warriors with spear 6 with shield

warband 3

goblin captain with shield

6 goblin warriors with spear 6 with shield

warband 4

goblin shaman

6 goblin warriors with shield 6 goblin warriors with spear

warband 5

goblin shaman

I have found this to be a deadly mix for goblins hope it helps!

This army did OK for me;
Durburtz, 5 Goblin war with spear, 5 Goblin War with Shield/hw
Shaman, 5 Goblin war with spear, 5 Goblin War with Shield/hw
Groblolg wiith mithril crown, 5 Gob war with spear, 5 Goblin war with shield
shaman #2 - alone
Black shield Captain, 6 Black shields swrod, 6 Black Shield spear

With two fury spells active and the mithril crown you have some staying power, have an elite to handle tough troops, and have 30 mob troops to swarm the other armies basic troops. Just keep Grobolg behind cover as long as possible and use the BS capt and Durburtz for your scrapping until you have to use him, by then the mithril crown will have used p it's need.

With Goblins you have two options, numbers or power.
You can take hordes of goblins and a shaman or two to in essence give you 33% more. But understand you'll be playing this like a WWII Soviet army, keep throwing troops at them till they wear down.

Or you can take monsters like Cave Trolls, Cave Drakes etc to simply crush your enemies beneath their feet. Your regular Goblins still die easily of course so using them to support the big unit is essential.

And finally if you're like jdizzy001's friend then dont play goblins. When I play Moria I go in expecting to lose a fat stack of models and every time a goblin kills something way better than him it's a victory for me lol

A Typical 350 points list for me with Moria is this
Durburz
10 Moria Goblins
MG Shaman
10 Moria Goblins
MG Shaman
10 Moria Goblins
MG Captain w shield
10 Moria Goblins

You'll lose a lot of Goblins but that list has never lost a fight to the death

Thanks very much everyone for the replies 8) yes I've noticed that my goblins tend to die very easily but there's alway more where they came from.
I haven't got a cave drake yet but I've got 4 cave trolls and plan on using at least two. What about big monsters though ie dragons Balrog's are they worth the points. At the moment I fight against wood elves lead by legolas , haldir and two eagles any suggestions on effective tactics.

There are too ways to play moria goblins: either full on hoard or having monsters as the main part of the army supported by as many gobos as you can get. Latter's more fun imo. Cave Drakess and Dwellers in the Dark are good.

From my experience no monsters that are larger point sinks than the Watcher are worth it. So the Dragon and Balrog aren't worth it IMO

The Balrog is always worth it! That is, unless there is a bridge and a wizard in the way ;)

He's a joke at his points. I had Drar kill him almost single handedly last game he was in

I would have loved to see that! Actually, my gaming group and I just had a discussion about the power of the balrog. It sounds like he is … all smoke
