So Im going to a 750 point 20 model limit tournament in March.

All hero/monster is probably the way Im going to go.

Right now, I have an army idea in mind to try. Im thinking of including Alfrid. Its going to be a good guys BOFA theme.

Im thinking of a combination of Beorn, Alfrid, the new Thorin/Dwalin, Thranduil, and maybe some others can be included.

Thing is, he was at the Battle of the Five Armies. Obviously I just put him in for point filler/his rule.

So....thoughts?

I would definitly do Alfrid and combine him with the armoured Bombur you can try to bring each hero to 6 might having an op army for just that small amount of points. This way you also have got enough might for the heroic strikes to fight agianst tough monsters for example Smaug. So for me it would be an yes.

Yeah I've heard of that combo but never used it. I'll have to re read what actually happens because I don't know Bomburs rules.

And yeah help Against monsters is necessary I'm sure there will be plenty.

And luckily Smaug is not allowed.

Just read it. Holy [word deleted]. That's an insane combination.

Lol actually I was considering him but he def is far fetched for this army. I mean....I'd use one of the models that are already out more than likely. Idm if they will release another.

I don't understand why everyone thinks alfrid is so op, does everyone conveniently forget he can cost you 1 might if things go wrong, that is really dangerous also one wound guys. don't get me wrong he is most of the time going to give you an extra might for a hero.

really easy to kill him

Tired of people saying Alfrid is cheese.
I use him in BOTFA lists all year, perfectly themed and in the end I was justified by his presence in the movie scenes cowering in the back like he was in my battles.

Yeah man that's exactly why I asked. I've seen you around and I respect the opinion. That's actually exactly what he should do.... if you don't mind send me an army list or two you've used.

Dont be tired on that statement. I found him less cheese than most meta combo´s out there.
The cheese its not exactly on him, its what else is brought out here to play on game for that same effect on meta.
If the list keeps themed he actually come handy to "underpowered" laketown/dale heroes allowing them to be more competitive and counter properly threats "since neither are great heroes" except bard whos not exceptional, just very decent character.

If its the 20 model tournament 750pts take a BOFA Army representation of each race.

Warband 1
Thorin oakenshield with orcrist
Bilbo, Master Burglar

warband 2
Gandalf the Grey

warband 3
Thranduil, king of the woodland realm
2 mirkwood elves (10pts option)

Warband 4
Bard the bowman, Girion´s heir with armour
3 laketown militia with shield

warband 5
Alfred
2 laketown militia with shield

total 750pts

He's just a 20 point buff. In essence you're just playing a more expensive hero, Alfred might as well not be there really

20 Pts you get a potential -3 might or +9 and will average around +3.

Personally the only way I think Alfred could be included in a themed way for the Battle of Five armies would be with Laketown militia and Bard as these are the only people he even spoke with during the battle (film wise at least, book wise he doesn't exist).
You could get Thranduril and elves in at a stretch if Bard was included, but everything beyond is getting less from theme and more towards taking effective heroes because you want to be competitive.
Not saying that there's a problem with trying to be/play competitive but be honest about why you're including him if you do take him.

My Vote is for other in that: List could be cheesier but I don't think its well themed.

Thanks everyone for the opinions.

In terms of it boosting my competitiveness.....yes, it can. But the other issue is that he will die every game unless Im lucky and with a small army its very dangerous to take 1 model which could be hurting me when I break every game.
