A Glaurung 'mini'ature? Blimey, Smaug's already a bit rich for me. A decently sized Glaurung will be impressive and expensive in equal measure - at least the lack of wings would make him a good deal easier to paint and transport...

Especially considering now Forgeworld would be behind the project!!

If they stay in PJ's universe and they are allowed to make miniatures off it, it's really good for GW and our hobby in general. We will get new miniatures for every season and GW will get a boost from ME being back in TV and talked about every year.

Worth mentioning that it's been said to happen between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so no remakes and just based on the books, not adapting them.

That timeframe really puts it down to a couple of different possibilities: Thorongil or Balin's Expedition to Moria. If they want it to be Thrones-esque, either would work and there's a decent enough framework for them to know what to do but few details enough for them to have some freedom.

Overall, I'm really hoping they'll work with Weta to have it fit into the films' aesthetic.

I guess it depends on when the hobbit began, if it is when Smaug descends upon the mountain there is more flexibility. Mostly to do with the stewards of gondor and the young nation of Rohan. I doubt there will be many dwarves or hobbits since that may require more money to produce with their verticals challenges. The story will be about men and maybe a few elves and dwarves.

good point, but if they're smart about it, they would avoid the need for scale doubles by focusing on these races for entire episodes ; the scenery etc would still be made to scale or, they could shoot the actors on greenscreens and then scale them all together against the backdrops?

Either way, if the story is the 60 years between The Hobbit & LOTR, they have plenty of time & scope to cover this period and find ways around these challenges as PJ did. Maybe they could bring him on board in a consulting role if not a more hands-on role like a producer?
