(Please as a small note, delete anything from my thread that shows rules too much, so I dont break or the rules, or tell me to at least)

All I want from this is an opinion:
Fly
Wyrmtongue
Breathe Fire
Tough Hide

Which two would you add to your dragon? I always see people to fly and tough hide, but I think Breathe fire may be better than one of those 2, has a sort of 'extra range' thing, and outright kills. Also, the magic would be good to counteract enemy magicians. Of course it is good to have more defence, or to reach your oppent faster;

So what do you think?

Thanks all

each one suits a different playing style.

fly is for if you want to get to an objective quickly, or swoop over your enemy and attack from behind.
wyrmtongue is great for disrupting your enemy, but causes no direct damage.
fire is great against people with blinding light, or generally close packed formations as it rips through enemies. unfortunately, it uses valuable will, which may be needed for those inevitable courage tests. this is a very offensive upgrade.
tough hide is the mirror of fire, as it means your dragon will have to take far less of those courage tests, which means he can use his will to demolish enemies without fear. he already has defence 7 though, so this is for players who don't like risking there 300/350 point model.

personally, i would choose wyrmtongue and tough hide, as it makes the dragon extremely versatile:
he can shred enemies with his high combat values
he can stop heroes with magic
he is solid and extremely difficult to kill

tough hide is a must have, otherwise they will just be taken down too quickly, i will now strike a cord with come other people and say not to include breath fire, because you have to give up 1 will and you only have 4 and once you have done it a couple of times you cant do it anymore, also you will be verry vunerable to enemy spell casters then.

Definitely Tough Hide!!!
I personally choose Breathe Fire for most games (mwuahaha, everybody burns  ). But for some scenarios i choose Fly or Wyrmtongue as an extra. Or no extra's (except tough hide, always tough hide on a dragon :P )

I'd get tough hide and Breath fire as it can kill outrigh (well not really it would take 3 turns) it could kill "outright" the whole unit/formation etc.

I use a dragon :)

It has to be Tough Hide and Fly all the way. Your into combat quicker where your FV7 can usually rip heros to shreds, then once you win a combat your s7 so most (man + elf) heros are wounded on 3/4s with 8 attacks for charging in your practically garunteed to win.

Then next turn if you don't win prority Heroic Move to somewhere of your choice (I target heros)

SAVE THAT 3 WILL FOR COURAGE TESTS!!!

AND REMEMBER YOUR RESITANT TO MAGIC SO DON'T SPEND YOUR WILL ON IT!!!

do you really get 8 atts for charging in, i thought you only get plus 1 or are you meaning to wound cause hes knocked down. Back to the dragon, i would personally take tough hide and fly because he can still rip apart hordes of units without his special abilities and he can move much farther, although if your versing a balrog take breathe fire definitely.

You have to use will before resistance don't you? Or is that part of a dragons special will?

Yes you still have to use the 3 will point sbefore you can use "resistant to magic rule"

And I think what he ment was than he charges he gets 1 extra attack + knock to the ground rule or something... but in that case he would have 5 on attacking and 10 dices on wounding

sorry I realise my mistake I meant 8 chances to wound

I've debated wether he gets +1 for charging and have come to the conclusion that a dragon is not a monsterours mount so does not revieve the +1 to attacks.

he gets 5 on the charge, and if he wins, he gets 8 to wound.

How do you work that out? If knocked to the ground each Attack is doubled - Anyway, a dragon is not a MM and so only has 3 Attacks when charging, for each attack on a model you roll two dice if knocked to the ground.

I don't understand - he has 4 on his profile.

i am sure he has a rule which makes him a MM, i think its the one called 'draconic charge' :?

look at the pro on GW:

That may be what the website say's, but that is not what the rules say, it clearly states:
Quote:
If a dragon charges into combat it will knock enemy models to the ground, in the same way as a Monstrous Creature if it wins the fight.
No mention of an extra attack and monstrous creature is not a monstrous mount, only mounts gain a +1A.

My bad, the dragon has 4 basic attacks, still no Attack bonus for charging though.

ah ok. So 4 on the charge, and 8 if it wins the combat, right?

Yes, but remeber you get 2 strikes to wound for each attack allocated to the model, meaning a maximum of 4 models can be killed.

Very little use for wyrmtongue as the dragon can easily win fights without transfixing the enemy.

Fire can be useful but will use your Will that you need for Courage tests.

That leaves Fly and Tough Hide that allows you to roam the battlefield with impunity.
