too ... hot ... to ... work!

... gasp ...

43C here today...

Bag ... End ... melting.

Hmm, maybe not quite melting, but certainly I've put it on ice for a while. I do have an update coming soon, so hang in there. I'll just wait for the heatwave to finish before going out to my workshop again.

This heat will really ruin all the great stuff you've ever made Alan.
But since i see you a great friend (love you much more than you can imagine) I'd like to reach my hand and offer you the help you must take to protect your great stuff.
I will make some room in my garage, you should send your stuff to my address where I will keep it all safe from the Australian heat.

Now if you don't accept this fine guesture of mine, I would be greatly disappoited in our friendship...

:-D

Thanks Beatrice (and welcome home too). It's been a treat working with and against Brian on this.

I know that Brian has been busy with this project while he's been offline for the past few weeks, and so expect an update at the end of next week when he finally comes back to life.

But I thought I'd get in early with something I'd been sitting on (not literally) for a little while. Things have been ridiculously hot here for the last month and so painting and modelling are not high on my agenda, but here's the latest WIP shot of the 'back door' of Bag End.

Very nice Allan.

Out of curiosity, how big is the finished piece going to be?

And you did all of that with the foam?

I'm impressed, but no so much as the foam is, I would think.

Brilliant Work Alan! stunning.

For a moment I thought this was going to be Winter Bag End... a fabulous amount of detail packed into a small space!

Wow, love it! Looks great the way the door is sunk into the hill like that, very life like.

So there’s a back door as well…

This piece of scenery is going to be HUGE, Alan. A day will come when you have all these doors & walls & windows completed. I guess that will also be the day when the real challenge arrives: to have these different elements integrated into a BIG Bag End hilltop. I’ll bet there’s also going to be a surrounding garden with a fence, a gate, a drive maybe with Gandalf and his cart…

Your estimate of “a meter long” might prove to be a little optimistic…

Anyway, if you – and Brian – do succeed in continuing this level of workmanship, the results in the end are going to be august (tried different words, this one comes nearest).

that looks so realistic (the painted areas I mean..), this is really fantastic Alan.
Every time I see some work of you I think you have reached your limit cause it looks like it can't be done better, but every time you manage to impress me again and again.
The natural look of this is so ... brilliant ...

So, when will you finally admit you have been asked by Weta to design the Bag End miniature for the Hobbit-movie?

Thanks everyone, the encouragement is really... erm, well... encouraging.

Brian had better get his butt into gear because I am now working on the last window panel, and after that, I'll start to put the whole thing together.

Not a hope in hell !

Things going really slow, work is killing me.

Added some fine detail to the front entrance, just need to add the lantern.

Also made the well, still some fine detail needed to finish it off, more paint and a wooden handle and straighten the bucket.
