What do you people think about using Mithril Miniatures' Rohan warriors as soldiers of Dale?

Gamling the Old

Gamling could be used as a captain, and the warriors could be used as regular soldiers.

What do you guys think?

Isn't Gamling too large, sitting at 32mm?

Does that make him 54mm standing then?

:P

I am tempted by the 25 minis for £40 deal though.

Don't think so. He is 32mm from bottom of the base to the top of his head, so I think they are the right scale. Plus, I have heard other people said Mithril's miniatures being 25mm minis.

Yes, but are all the mould lines removed prior to that?

Don't know. You could email them and ask.

They are wonderful figures and I think would fit in perfectly if the scale is right. Can anyone answer that question.
They are the best alternatives I have seen in my limited experience.

The scale of these models is perfect for the GW LotR models. I own a few of their models and the only ones I wouldn't recommend are the hobbit miniatures, unless you are using them as children.
Hope that helps.

Yes, I have a few of the ones listed here: http://www.mithril.ie/LR/index.html

namely Saruman, Isildur, Cirdan and the Blue Wizard of the East. They fit well in the GW range, size-wise.

What I'm wondering is how they can still get away with selling these minis! I thought GW had exclusive rights?

Because they have the rights to create models providing they are intended for the old RPG system, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

Ah, the Middle-earth Role Playing Game

Had some interesting stuff in it. None of it "official" canon, of course, but a lot of it better than GW's invented fluff. Some of it was worse though. I mean come on, "Dwaw of Waw" was a Nazgul? Which King of Men was he, Elmer Fudd? :P

I risk being called a thread necromancer here, so apologies.

But I think these miniatures from Crusaders make EXCELLENT men of dale and Wardens of Carrock

http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/prod. ... ian&page=1

I don't think the shields are attached either, which means you can just give the shield to grimbeorn (if you are a wotr player and they can't normally have shields anyway...)

I have a couple Mithril Minis and they're great.
The WofR are excellent with LOTR minis.
I say go for IT!

Mithrils tend to be excellent.

They photograph a bit flat, and sometimes they go a bit overboard with the primer, but they have lots of subtle detail and character.

I don't have these new Rohan figures yet; I will, soon. There's an older Rohan range still available (the LT series, I think) which isn't that amazing. The Legolas figure is alright; I've used it for just about everything but Legolas :D

Mithril also has a super exclusive (and expensive) collector's item King Brand of Dale to lead them.

I rewrote the background of the various Nazgul, de-emphasising ICE's half assed "lands of the east" stuff and nodding at the GW fluff somewhat.

http://mmp.faerylands.eu/viewtopic.php?id=114

In fairness, ICE wrote this stuff in the mid-80s before a lot of the History of Middle Earth books, and no one ever told them they couldn't make that (dreadful) Arda map. Their regional maps for the more familiar parts of Middle Earth are things of beauty though.
