I don't collect Elves, but I have played a few games against them. They are really great to use, especially against weak Orcs, even though they are pretty expensive, I think they are worth it 8)

elves are a hard army to play. they're expensive, so you won't have many of them. this means you can't afford many casualties, and if you look at the def of some of them (wood elves) that is going to be hard). i played a game with them yesterday and got crushed. i do think that if you get the hang with them they are a force to be truly feared. this does require a bit(well, a lot) of practice.

I love and hate them, love the models hate always being outnumbered. My biggest complaint is our cavary is so low in defense, if you can get them there they hit very well. Our biggest bonus is the terror we cause it is very much a game swinger. The master pathfinder is pretty awsome too. Don't be tempted to bring tons of archery and try and shoot your opponent off the table, might work in some instances but it has failed me alot. I love our magic I try and have atleast one spells of wilderness based caster, the rest are for lowering courage for that all important charge terror check. I must admit I don't get to play any evil armies me and a Rohan player is all that is active and we crash into each other alot, needless to say I am decent at handling cavarly. If you are lucky enough to have a few different players especially some evil ones I think they are a good choice.

Elves are an interesting army.... I don't tend to find many people playing with them.

In my opinion they have some of the best metal models available to them and it is not out of the question to put together a really nice all metal army.

I don't have much experience with a wood elf/ent army which seems to be the route you want to go.
