Damrod and Beregrond are still avaliable in US, not sure about Netherlands. :)

I would, because metal ones are more detailed and I am in this hobby for the painting side, rather than the gaming. Of course, most would rather buy the plastic ones, but not me......

I wouldn't buy the metal ones, not when they want to charge me €11.50 on Beregond and €27.50 for Faramir and Damrod. I wouldn't pay that much even if they were painted by Tim. Actually, if it was Tim, I might, but otherwise I wouldn't even consider it.

Faramir and Damrod only cost 17,50 € on the European GW's I checked, not sure where you got that price from Captain. If Tim painted it, it'd be worth a lot more money then 11,50 €.

As you just stated Josh, the European GW. I am European after all. :P

Well, I would pay either price :P

Look at these people who pay $400 USD for new-in-box Star Wars figs from 1980. :)

You'd honestly pay $41 for Faramir and Damrod? I got those ages ago in the Captured by Gondor set for about €30, complete with Gollum, Sam, Frodo, and 2 rangers.

They're $20.00 :)

Yes, I would pay. Heck, that's not so crazy when you think about it. There's Lego men for sale for $95.00 apiece. :P

Now ya'll all can cleary see I'm insane....of course, after seeing my workspace, I bet you already knew that

I think we may have de-railed this topic. We were talking about sets that were supposed to come out in October, right? :?

Have you looked at a plastic dwarf warrior lately? They're bloody awful and covered with detail voids. I'd much rather pay a premium for models I can actually paint.

I really hate it when GW discontinue things.

No, these are models that came out last October. Now we're discussing the ones that have been discontinued.

I totally agree. The plastics put me off making a Dwarf army... :x
They look really thin. I thought Dwarves were meant to be small, stocky characters...

As I am reading this, I got a little confused. How are SBG and WOTR any different when it comes to GW releases? The only items that exclude one system are the rulebooks and both sides have those. Other than that, all of the models are interchangeable so where's the problem? I understand that many people are angry with the discontinuation of metal models as games workshop moves towards more plastic sets, but how does that favor one game or another? In both systems, there will be plenty of players who want to field larger armies or more armies and will be attracted to cheaper plastic sets but there will also be those who want their armies to look good. I know this is not what everybody is currently talking about, but I just wanted to bring it up. Earlier in the thread, back when everybody thought that the original article was current, people were talking about how "WOTR is a money making machine" or whatever and "SBG will be moved to specialty games." What will they be moving? The rulebooks? If all the models are interchangeable, how can people say that GW is favoring one or the other? Maybe I am missing a major detail but I think that GW can't make everybody happy (well, they can but they won't) and metal versus plastic models has less to do with systems and more to do with increased metal costs, demand for cheaper sets, etc.

:P

vernongetzler, it would be best to post in the Welcome New One Ringers section here http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=33 rather than posting here saying you're new :)

Back on topic, I agree with the others in the fact that GW has made a frustrating move in discontinuing metals to expand their plastic range--I preferred the metal ones over the plastic ones any day. :)

There were a multitude of reasons. Metals often had cooler poses, better details, and somehow the weighty feel of them in my palm just felt good....weird, huh? :?

He looks very Spambot-ish to me, to be perfectly honest. Either that or just some advertising account.
Look at his other two posts:

Oooo, my first spambot! :)

I honestly couldn't recognize one if it fell down in front of me before, but now I know what to look for.....thanks, Cap'n. 8)

No idea if he is a spambot, but he sure looks like one. Let's wait to see if he posts more advertisements.

I sent a PM to Alan. So, if it is a spambot I'm sure he'll take care of it. :)

Honestly I think this is a big complot bij GW.
They keep doing more and more product out of production,
and they re-release it later in future releases. (for a more expensive price ofcourse)

To bad they didn't release the new "box-sets".
I'd liked to see the old sets back.
