great work on the towers and the mountain is comming along nicely aswell.

one sugestion: I think the towers would look better if you ad wooden beams on top of the roof (balsa wood rods or something like that)

I would certainly add the red one and the blue one only if it isn't to hard.

btw are you going to put the towers in trees?

Thank you for the idea aqan. I should be able to do the curve with all the wood I have and it would make them look a lot better. Do you have a picture of what exactly you had in mind?
I've also pretty much finished carving out the mountain. The paths leading from the towers is a little steep. While I don't have the glue to cover the whole piece with sand I will probably add sand there so that there is something for the base to "catch" on and keep them from slipping. Does anyone have any experience with this problem or having any other ideas for solving it?



The towers have just been put in place to give an idea of what the piece would look like when it is done. I will need to add some more supports for the towers to keep the straight and in place. I couldn't figure out how to add trees to put them one so I went with those columns though if anyone has an easy way way of making trees, I couldn't fine any branches that fit so the trees would have to be made, I could give it a try though my resources are limited.

Thank you for your comments. I've only got a small update this time. I've added some supports for the towers to keep them level and extended the ramps from the towers. My most visible change of course is the addition of the base. Now there is a lot more space to use. I plan on adding quite a few more details with all the additional space, though not to much or too significant. Ideas and suggestions would be welcome.

That is very good work. Well done! You might like to add some sort of a parapet at the top of your slope, along the whole length. But then, you might not.
I would suggest you get some twine and put together some guardrails along the walks to the towers, though. Even elves can slip in the heat of battle, especially if they come to a spot where a comrade was already injured and there is blood on the walk.

An excellent idea, thank you very much. I was worried that the walkway wouldn't look complete and this will solve it.

Thank you for all your encouragements. I was slightly discouraged by the progress earlier in the day but it's all fine now. I've almost finished texturing the whole piece, I was just going to paint it but then decided to cover the whole thing with sand to make it look more natural. I will try to get pictures up soon.

It has been a while but here is the update at last. I wasn't careful enough with the dry brushing so now I'll have to go back and fix a lot of it, I should never have added the green. I haven't got much experience in terrain making so I'm not sure what to do next as far as the painting is concerned. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Its looking good man. I agree with you about going back and fixing some of it. As for advice for colours, maybe some lighter gray, though adding still more highlights. But really I dont know the look you are going for. Slightly Brownish tones could work also. But looks good.

Looks good. My only critiscm is that I think brown would be a more suitable color for the fortress, as the elves do live in the forests after all. As it is now it looks almost like Moria. I'd also suggest using some kind of filler and applying this over the walls of your fortress. You can then carve a stone pattern into this. Just my two cents worth.

I think that some more brown would be good to make it look more like earth rather than dirt/rocks.

Thank you for your comments. I want a browner look. I base coated it with a dark brown add added brown and grey highlights but the base coat ended up too dark and the lighter brown ended up coming out looking almost exactly like the grey. I probably go back and repaint it with a lighter shade of brown to start off with and use more shades of brown in the highlighting. I haven't had much success with brown bases either so advice on how to get a more earth toned mountain would be very helpful.

Maybe it's just me, but I liked the green painted on it. It looked like moss or lichen, which would definitely have accumulated over time.
I do agree that some kind of bushes or trees - and grass - is called for, though.

Nope, it's not just you. I too think that some drybrushed lichen-y green here and there can make it a little more life-like.
