I like the galadrim. Though is it just the pics, or is everything quite shiny?

Also, just IMO, you should ink/drybrush the sand on the bases, it makes it look ages better.

Good work on painting most of them though. I especially like Lurtz, you did a good job on eyes/metallics

Everything looks really nice, I especially like your Saruman. My main advice to you would be to water down your paints more, as the paint appears to be a little thick on some of your models. Keep up the good work, and glad to have you on OR.

Very nice work so far, keep it up. I do agree that you might want to do something with the bases; possibly give them a wash of something to add depth.

I think the shiny-ness has to do with the light - I would blame it on the varnish, but some of these were photoed before the varnish was applied (Orcs, for instance).

I might try some Devlan Mud on the bases and see how that works out - then maybe a wash of Scorched Brown is that doesn't work.

The box of Uruk-hai Scouts were my first minis ever - so I'm pretty happy with them (the Galadhrim would be my 3rd or so).

Saruman looks a bit dark (such comments were mirrored at TLA) I think it's got a lot to do with the angle, etc. So I'll post a pic from farther away and in better light.

Wow! The Scouts were your first miniatures? That's great work for your first miniatures, and I think that you're improving as well with your Galadhrim and your Saruman. With a little work you'll be a great painter!

I have experience with painting (ie. fine arts) - I plan on being an art major. However, these are the first models I've ever touched and it's quite a different experience (brand new techniques, etc.)

I have bowed to peer pressure and have painted the sand and the base (and added a white background) anyone think they look better?

I'm working on finishing 48 Orcs, I had a bit of a sophmore slump and I don't think they look as good as my Uruks. I'll also be painting the bases of my Galadhrim and fixing the cloaks (to take out the balck folds, replacing them with dark grey). I just ordered a plastic Nazgul kit and a box of Morannons, so they might be taking precedence over the Galadhrim (hopefully I finish the Orcs before the Nazgul arrives so I won't have to drop the project and come back, can't resist the Nazgul ).

I had my Winged Nazgul undercoated for months and I just finished it in a flurry of painting. I'll be careful when painting something so big in how to assemble and paint it - I glued it together as soon as I got it, the enthusiasm wasn't necessarily rewarded (I'm suprised the rod didn't break). You won't see the base because I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet - thinking about a Minas Tirith Wall diorama. Anyways, here it is:

















Here's an Orc Drummer conversion, the spikes are toothpicks - the drum itself (including the skin on top) is made of super-glued paper:

Super cool idea on the Orc Drummer. Which model was his base? Where did you get the idea to use crumbled and shaped paper, glued up, for the drum? Very creative.

The nazgul is very impressive. The mini fits your painting style very well. I would suggest maybe adding a thin wash or a couple glazes, I'm not sure what colour, just to make the painting look a little smoother. I'll be looking forwards to seeing what you do with the base.

I like the job you have done on your Felbeasts wings but my only suggestion is to try and be a bit neater with your painting. There is an obvious improvement between your latest models and the earliy ones so keep it up.

Nice job on the orc-drummer! Simple, yet effective conversion! Well done!

I really hope you try to do something with the base, colourong the sand/stones always gives a much better result!
I remember my early days that I didn't want to try it cause I thought I would mess up the actual real sand.
However, I tried it on a seperate base and it was so terribly easy to make it look much better then I expected.
Now I believe it's a must to paint the sand

I always add a short tutorial in my painting-articles how I finished the base (if interested, here's a link to an article I did where you can see an easy way to finish off the base at the end of the article...). Most of my figs start with a scorched brown + chaos black wash over the base, a drybrush Scorched Brown, drybush Bestial Brown (or Graveyard earth), drybrush snakebite leather, drybrush bubonic brown, drybrush bleached bone... (but there are so many variations you can do...)

It's the two-handed pose with the axe – the tip of the axe was cut off and then he already had his drumsticks . The paper thing just seemed like the right thing to do since it was sitting right there (I've made a few paper mache sculptures before and I knew what I wanted to do, just on a smaller level).

I think they look great on the table – they only start to look sloppy once you're within an inch with a hi-def camera. I'm working on the tiny details with every model I do and I think I'm progressing fine for starting the hobby around Christmas.
