Now, before you all tut at me, I know what a banner does! ;)

However, it's the wording of the banner rules that get me, I introduced the theory to my store, and this is the way we now play it.

The description for the banner says you re-roll on one of THE dice rolled.

Not "your", "his", "hers" or any other specific roll, just "one of the", the entire entry is phrased the same.

So, according to this, I can pick up one of my opponents dice and re roll it to see who wins the fight.

Other items that function like banners (such as the moria goblin drums) specify that it's your dice you re-roll ("may re-roll one of his dice" for example).

Is this how it is intended to be used? Or am I just reading into it too much?

You're reading too much into it. It's your dice only.

Yeah, too much into it. Even though the entry says "one of" it's written talking to "you" - the section isn't written like it was talking to your opponents, etc.
