Hey folks, I need some help on how to perfect my Gondor army. We're doing 750 points, here's what I have so far:

*20 WoMT sword + shield = 159
*19 WoMT spear + shield = 171
*1 King Aragorn = 260
*1 WoMT Captain = 50
*1 WoMT banner = 32
*6 KoMT = 78

Total = 750

What do you guys think? I decided to take Aragorn because I know my opponent will use an Isengard troll, and with Aragorns special ability to wound on a 4+ will make the troll less of a problem. Otherwise I would have used Boromir for he is very good against infantry and his flag which gives the much needed +1 strength to units nearby. This really helped me in my previous battle because those annoying uruks have more strength. Any help on what I should change/keep is much appreciated!

Three small things:

1. If you are playing LOME you have three people too much.
2. Boromirs banner gives nearby troops +1 fight, not strenght, but that isn't really relevant as you aren't fielding him anyway.
3. Why don't you have any archery? They can fitght in close combat too you know, it's not like they have to stand far away and shoot forever. Their low defence wan't be a problem anyway as Uruks are strength 4.

I'm not the best Gondor player soo I can't really say much more.

1.LOME?
2. Whoops yep meant fight value, sorry I constantly seem to get them mixed up
3. I'm not sure why I didn't include any archers, so I could take a few off and replace them. I'd probably go with Rangers because of their 3+ shooting and the ability to hide in tree's.

1. Dont worry about it, You arent 3 people over, you can have 75 units in 750 points. LOME is legions of Middle Earth.

I would drop the banner. and swap aragorn for boromir without banner or faramir and someone else and boost your numbers (get archers), archers should be able to get a few wounds on the troll..

Just so ya know, LOME contains all the rules for creating a tournament legal army.

Forgetting LOME, do everything Nod told you, also I think you should get a mounted hero , probably the captain, so that you'r cavalry isn't slaughtered incase you don't get priority, since uruks hit hard.

@ Alzenrider: A mounted captain, there's not a model for that is there?

Thank's for all the help folks, here is what it's looking like at the moment. Bulked up my army and have got rangers which should nicely (if thats possible) take out a few men. Thank's for that Noddwyer

*20 WoMT sword+shield = 159
*19 WoMT spear+shield = 171
*15 Rangers (12 with spears) = 131
*1 Boromir with shield = 160
*1 Captain = 50
*6 KoMT = 78

Total Points = 750
Total Models = 62

If you don't care about LoME, then ignore the rest.

If you want it LoME legal you need to ally with a hero from the Rangers list, like Madril or Damrod. The Rangers list has both WoMT and Rangers, so your bow limit should be okay. Then you can ally with Boromir and the Knights.

Most everybody uses LoME because it tends to make for more fair and thematic games.

For the captain the only way to get one is conversion.

But Whafrog's Idea seem's to be better than mine.

Right forgot about that. Good point whafrog, you could get Damrod and then get boromir a horse.

I could get Damrod but I'm afraid I don't have Boromir mounted, only have the two foot models - one with shield and one with banner.

He can use the Captain, Warriors of Minas Tirith, and Rangers from the Ranger of Ithilien list, and ally in Boromir and the Knights from the Tower of Ecthelion list.

A problem here is that it is relatively hard to beat Uruk-Hai with Gondor. And sorry about my mistake earlier, I thought the point cost for the Knights were the total number. Could you perhaps post a list of which minatures you have? it would help alot I think.

wait a minute.... your going against an entirely str4 army and your taking D6 models? the uruks rip through D6. you would me MUCH MUCH MUCH better just sticking with either D5 or D7 models (fountain guard are amazing)
I seriously think you should look into the fiefdoms.. get forlong the fat on horse, axemen... man at arms.... a few ranges

dont bother getting D6 models in your army, it will just be a waste of points

Okay I'll show you what I have avaliable on the Gondor range. There's not a huge amount at the moment, but it is slowly building.

*12 Fountain Guards
*6 Citadeal guards
*approx 35 Rangers
*approx 100+ WoMT (5 banners, 4 captains)
* 15 KoMT (1 mounted banner)
*New Minas Tirith Commanders
*2 Boromir (with flag/shield)
*1 Damarod
*2 Faramir (armoured, unarmoured)
*4 Aragon (King + Striders)
*1 Halbarad (with flag)
*3 Gandlaf (white + grey)
*1 Trebuchet
*1 Avenger bolt thrower
*1 Black root vale command
*1 King of the dead
*24 Warriors of the dead

I also have a lot of Rohan which could maybe allie if needed.

hmm yes I see your point there, so outnumber them won't do much if they just eat through my men. Well luckily I have a few fountain guards as shown above. I don't really have any of the 'special' gondor I call them. I can see what I can do to get a few but it will take time.

Give that fountain guards some shields they really need it 8)

What weapons do your citadel guard have( they really need shield and spear)

The model limit in Lome for 750 points is 75 models so your numbers are good.

I think Aragorn is useless here because much uruk hai army have Saurman and grima. Especially grima is a real pain because you can't use your free might and saruman just transfixes you I would use this army if you convert your fountain guard and citadel guard:

Tower of ethelicion
Faramir heavy armour horse
Captain of minas tirth
12 fountain guard ( shields!!!!)
6 citadel guard with bow and spears
5 knights of minas tirith( no shields!!! def 5 or 6 doesn't matter to stregnth 4 crossbows and uruks)
1 womt with bow( just to fill in points)

Rangers of ithilien
Damrod
24 womt with shield 12 also with spear( they don't need their shield but I think you don't have spearmen without shields)
12 rangers with spear

63 models 6 might 14 normal bows,6 elf bows

Play very defenisive with armies like this just volley and take the best postition because he can't volley with crossbows.

getting the fellowship boromir instead of the capt would massively help the army (preferably on horse), you'd need to tweek it so the numbers are still high

Why not something like this:
Saruman
Faramir w. heavy armour
Damrod
12 fountain guard shields
6 citadel guard with bow and spears
12 WOMT with shield
12 WOMT shield and spear
12 rangers with spear

748 points, 7 might, 57 units, 18 archers, 6 with strength 3
Good Saruman should have no problem showing up bad saruman and perhaps even dealing with that pesky troll as well.

Yeah nodwyrr that list is nice but I used only miniatures he posted.

But if he wants to buy saruman that army is perfect.
