That looks awesome Bart, good job. Actually they all look good so far, I think I need to get stuck in to mine or I'll never finish him on time!

Thanks for the nice comments! :)
I'm really pleased with how the sword turned out! But I must say I used a pic of Alexi_Z's Theoden (CMON) as a reference cause I always struggle to get the highlights of a swordblade right.

@ Minimal Monkey Saddle: your NMM looks great! Especially the gold looks very realistic! Mind sharing your recipe?

Sure (even though it was a bit of a bodge in all honesty).

Basecoat: tausept ochre
Shading: dark flesh/scorched brown
Highlight: tausept ochre/bleached bone/white

After the basecoat I put the figure flat on the desk and looked down from a slight angle to the vertical to eyeball the areas that needed highlights. All other areas then were shaded. I did a final pass with the highlights on any areas that I wanted to add a little definition.

It proved to be a very quick and easy method.

Well I'm a bit late, and I'm nowhere near the quality of other painters here but I thought I'd give this a shot. After all I managed to buy him for a couple of dollars second hand so may as well paint him up.

Edit: Hmm, first post on these forums. :D

Haha, yep. Made a start on him last night and will post a WIP picture when I get home. I remain hopeful given I have a bit of time free today (if I can keep myself off Shogun 2: Total War). Thankfully my hash jobs shouldn't take too long to paint.

Edit: Update

Image

Doesn't really show too much other than that I'm making progress. Had trouble working out the armour colour, but in the end I've gone for a black-brown, though it's hard to pick up in the photo (really need to work out a proper camera set up). The main armour colour is really the only thing done so far. Everything else still needs a few highlights and what not.

Good job Cal.
In my own enthusiasm to get him finished on time I managed to knock him off the table and chip the c**p out of him so he's having an acid bath at the moment but I doubt I can finish in time!

It's a little rough around the edges as I've rushed to finish it. But I'm pleased with how the nmm turned out.

Very nice :yay: He has an expression like, "Oi! you uruks ate all my cookies! *unsheaths sword in a flash* Now for wrath, now for ruin, and my appetite's ending!"

Lol, Pinky, that's the second setback you've had for a painting challenge in a row :-D

..Oh, and welcome to the site, cal585. 8)

Well I ran out of time to do the base, and there's a few more details I could potentially do (fix up areas, add extra highlights and correct the stupid, impossible eyes!) but I think he's pretty well done. Sorry about the poor lighting, there's no sun left and so I'm restricted to using a desk lamp.

First time painting blonde hair! And thanks for the comments Elros/Pinky. I'd show a comparison with my Eomer as to how my painting has improved but that'll have to wait. All in all I felt Theoden was quite a nice model, though some of the small detail was frustrating to paint. The end effect was worth it however.

@ Elros: Bahaha tell me about it! Lucky I'm sitting the next one out as I don't have the models. Lets go May!

@ Cal: That armor is excruciating to paint! You've done a great job though. Where in Oz are you?
