Actually, the wording of the rule menas it is utterly pointless in him casting it. However, I'd happily houserule it, but maybe at a reduced capacity. Might be best to playtest it though.

Interestingly, I did note on p62 Hard to kill table and its following discussion, it mentions:

"wound counters... remain in play until the monster is slain or they are removed by a magical power or special ability"

I cant see any other magical power or special ability that could 'heal' a monster, so by that would we assume Blessing of the Valar would indeed heal Glorfindel?

If so, it would make him nigh on impossible to kill, you'd have to kill him outright in one turn, otherwise he's almost guaranteed to heal himself up.

Have i missed something, are there any other monster healing things out there for WOTR?

GW, like many companies, will leave some open ended options for expansion later. Blessing very specifically says it restores casualties. Wound Counters are never expressed as casualties, and Blessing never makes mention of having an effect on Wound Counters. So until there's a Fortune/Fate added later or some new spell rolled out (because magic is pretty underpowered and can use a boost ) all of us that use H2K/VH2K/EH2K critters are stuck with our Wounds as given.

I agree it clearly says casualties in the spell.

But why would you give Glorfindel the spell, if he cant use it? Casters formation only. If he could use it on another formation I wouldn't quibble, but the fact that its caster formation only, makes me wonder...

Another one awaiting an official FAQ i guess.

It also seems a little odd, that H2K suggests healing monsters, yet the book, a lengthy tome indeed covering all the armies and all the major characters and one would assume all the spells necessary, doesn't contain anything that can do so...

The spell isn't given on-off. It's part of a list that contains otherwise appropriate and usefull spells for him. It may be ruled later that such spells can help and that will go a long way to making Glorfindel one of the most potent "monsters" in the game (right now the only time I faced him I killed him in one turn with 2-companies of Black Guard and some lucky H2K dice). But I wouldn't view the presence of Blessings on the list he can cast as saying that spell specifically should be applicable to him in this case.

There are other instances of "wasted" spells or special rules. Galadriel, Protectress of Lothlorien has Spirit Grasp and Spirit Walk. These are completely useless to her though they are fantastic rules. Just one of many examples.

Beowulf is correct. There is no indication as to Blessings sensibly "undoing" wound counters. There are tons of rules that are littered about (the most notable of which are on Epic Heroes) and poorly worded things, as well as pieces of text where they forgot to remove a rule that was around during an earlier stage of the rules-making process (Banner of Rohan being an Army Banner example,w hen it doesn't say that it counts as one [in fact, that's got more credence for being debated than this]).

Ultimately, it's easier to say he has access to lore x, then have one of the spells' effects be worded so it's uselss to him, than it is to say he has lore x without spell y (and then need to word it one way or the other anyway).
