Racked my brains about this but does anyone know if it is legal to field an epic hero in a monster/artillery formation0(e.g suladan riding a mumak). there is no rule thagt says you cant but does anyone know

They can't join a monster as they replace a model within a company and monsters are not made up of companies. Artilery, however, I can't think of anything (off the top of my head) that is actually stopping you. I wouldn't think it wise, however...

Monsters no. Epic heroes can join infantry and cavalry formations. For Artillery formations, I think they can. I am not aware of anything preventing a single Epic from joining an artillery company, though they would be very vulnerable while there.

When WotR first came out there were some very heated arguments about whether epics could join a mumak but the general consensus was that the Mumak is a monster and epics can't join monsters and that the crew are better thought of as "crew tokens" that measure the combat effectiveness of the monster rather than regular models in their own right.
