Why doesn't it. I almost understand you on the Bezerker point although some of the beserkers in the film used one hand. In the case of elves, like most archers, when they reach close quarters, they drop their bow and take out thier swords. It was done in real life, and if you'll notice some do in the Two Towers film. (Also see the book; LOTR: Weapons & Warfare - a lot of it is not true to the books, but see page about 2nd or 3rd age elven archers)

The Elves on the top of Helms Deep did have both sword and bow however the High Elves at TLA didn't, the old profile meant they had to purchase a bow and an Elven Blade which left them either more expensive or Unarmed, both of which make sense to me.

I should have put i meant TLA Elves and understand why the Haldirs Elves have both. Personally if they pay the points then fair enough but counting everyone as having a hand weapon as standard seems silly to me, just a personal opinion though.

All archers in real life carry a sworsd or similar weapon for close quarters. See the book I mentioned.

Well yes a weapon for close quarters makes sense, but not a big heavy sword, but a small dagger which really should be an unarmed type of attack, it certainly used to be in the old rules, it made Orc bows worthwhile as they could double as a hand weapon, now they are really quite weak compared to the bows of all other races yet they all cost a point.

Yeah but paying the same cost as a regular man for a bow that is 6" less range is a bit harsh, saying that it doesn't matter to me, just saying is all. I don't really count points, just good games, especially those 500pts of Defenders against 1250 points of Attackers :P

But saying that i just don't get how High Elves have that hand weapon, same as Berzerkers.

Elves are the most skilled army in the game, why would any of them turn up unarmed (or with weapons that aren't any good anyway) and Bexerkers should have freedom of choice, during the bloodlust of battle, they would use their wepon how they wanted, if they wanted to swing it with both hands for extra power, why not, if they wanted to use a single hand for extra hitting speed, fine, they are strong enough.

This is why I like the new Galadhrim rules, you start with an elf blade in the profile and can only exchange it. You can't drop it and save a point.

I guess to me it would be best if the rules opposed a -1 Fight for switching weapons, but allow models with Elf Blades to switch without penalty.

That would make sense, but then you would get a case of 'well why bother switiching to my hand weapon when i can have either the penalty or the penalty and then the bonus?'

Personally i just wish that GW wouldn't keep making things all too simple, like the did with all the other game systems. Would make the game much more fun. Then again they do have to pull kids into it and from what i have seen at my local GW's the kids have all of 5mins attention span.

Personally, I think that SBG is generally far simpler than Fantasy.

Regardless, as everyone's already said, any bonuses for two hand weapons are in the profile already (fight or attacks, usually) - additional rules like Gimli's are because he is a hero and has several weapon options.
