Agreed. Great work on the Hand. Present as it should be but scaled and varied enough to really look good. I'm not sure if you were already intending to do more with the bases but that is my only suggestion. Right now the gravel work stands out a lot but if you took care of that then you'd have the beginnings of a fantastic looking force on the table. I really love the Scouts over armored Urusk visually and I think they can be played nearly as well when you get the hang of them. I'm glad to see you starting there yourself.

The Troll in the background looks like he wants to get in front of the camera soon. Better not keep him waiting!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad you like my scouts. Elland, I copied how yours looked, a bit. Because they are fantastic!

I"m making progress on my troll. He's taken a lot of work, getting a good contrast between his tummy and the scales! Also working on my crossbowmen - we now have an awesome collection. My dad is converting some Uruk Hai pikemen to carry crossbows. So I will have 16, plus Vrasku, and hopefully terrorise the enemy. I'm busy at school over the next few weeks but hope to do some 700 point battles soon. I'll post my list before I do.

Here's some work on progress. Doing all the washes on the Troll's armour. And you might spot some autumn theme wood elves in there.. :!: :!: :!: :!: :-D

Happy BDay!! Once you entered double-digits it's all down hill. You'll be hitting 40 before you know it. :-P

Seriously, nice work on the Troll so far. If you have him and a couple companies of Uruk XBows in the same army you'll definitely give your opponent some things to worry about.

im curious, I've seen lots of cave trolls with horse bases, but not many isengard or mordor ones, they mostly have that larger base... So what exactly determines the size of base your troll needs?

GW determines it. :-D

The "big" Trolls (Mordor/Isengard/Chief), plus Ents/Treebeard, Shelob, Spider Queens and I'm sure a few other models I can't recall right now all use the larger "Monster" base. The Cave Trolls, bat swarms, Giant Spiders and several other "lesser" monsters use the smaller size base.

The troll was from ebay and only had the smaller base. We are trying to find a bigger one - especially so we can fit some of the troll's victims on there. Is there a good place to find a bigger base? They have them in the games workshop stoes, but only as part of a pack with lots of the small bases - that we don't need.

beowulf, your site has been very helpful - now I know not to take my scouts with shield out (even though they look cooler! )

You could always just make them yourself with thin black-core foam board from an office supply store or some sheet styrine (spelling?) plastic. The second option would obviously be thin (it does come in different thicknesses so get something thick enough to be firm). The first may be a little more tricky to make a smooth edge and I haven't worked with it yet myself. But I have seen it used for some paper-cutout wargames as base material and it seemed good.

I appreciate that. I have several tactics articles that I've been working on from my own perspective for WotR and SBG, but have not had the time to wrap any up yet or get stage some pics for them. I hope to turn that around in time, but life keeps casting those Spells of Darkness and Dismay on me it seems. :o

Tip: Stay away from Riders clothed in Black on black horses or giant dragon-bat-things. That might help.

Well, I just "volunteered" (recruited :? ) to replace someone that had to depart the town's Budget Committee due to illness...as they are trying to finalize the 2012 budget for vote Q1. About 8 - 12 hours per week (out of my "plentiful" free time). Politics. Personal agendas. Stubbornness. I wouldn't give any of them the style of a Nazgul, but even if some of theme didn't look like Orcs on the outside they share the intentions. :P

First, very nice painting on that troll, excellent job, one almost forget s your only eleven..

Secondly, you can edit a post rather doing 3 separate ones

Thirdly, this shuld really be going in WIP now, even if you still think you're a beginner 8)

I can't help but think this looks like some sort of hidden code message. Been trying to find a pattern in it but no luck so far.
