I don't play dwarves but have always viewed a Kings champion like a Mordor Troll chieften (powerful monster with might). I personally wouldn't take 2 until around the 1500 -2000 points range but there is no reason you couldn't take 2 at a 1000 points along as you use them to the best of their ability and make sure you pick your charges to maximise your damage (you might want to take the Blessing of Galadriel fortune (+D3 might) and give it to one of them so they can make the most of there epic actions). I would never take 2 at a points level any lower than that though.

I wouldn't take even just 1 up till 1500, with two you should wait till 2000pts IMO, or you'll loose so many basic warriors that you are swarmed by virtually anything (except Elves)

I played against a Dwarf Player who had 2 Kings Champions and The 3 Hunters at 2,000pts, so I don't think 1,500pts is too few pts to use 2 Champions, so long as you don't use a 3rd monster.

@ Lays: poor them. Although if everyone plays the overcosted armies, of course they are no longer overcosted.

@ Gothmog: Of course it can be done if you want to, but I'd say saving the points for some damage-soakers instead of damage-dealers would be a far better idea.

Generally, the core of the army is damage-soakers, and if you plan it well, you can still have several powerful damage dealers, you just need to know what you're doing and how to do it. And avoid overpowered armies.

Yup, and I'm afraid that with two King's Champions (and some other nice stuff), you won't have enough core left.

Could you show it to us when you're finished? I'd like to see what the rest of the army consists of.

I feel I'm flying into a fit of jealousy at the moment.

I wouldn't advice you bother with the Captains and Banner, but you certainly have a lot of Dwarves, especially Khazad Guard, though I recommend you get another 2 companies of them so you can have 2 formations of 4 companies, a true Bane.

At 2,000pt, you could do it.

Yes, but it was about 1000-1500 pts, wasn't it. And even then, I wouldn't do it (but I tend to use very expensive heroes)

Using models in your list and 2 Champions, you can make this 1,500pt army.

Epic Heroes;
Dain Ironfoot
Balin
A 50pt or less allied Hero

Common Formations:
Dwarf Warriors (6c) 2-handed weapons
Dwarf Warriors (3c) shields
Dwarf Warriors (3c) shields
Dwarf Rangers (3c) bows

Rare Formations:
2 Kings Champions
Khazad Guard (4 companies)

Or swap the 50pt Hero for 2 coys of KoMT and then swap the Rangers for 2 Ballistas.

Defence 6 too low! I think not. Have you seen Gundabad blackshields, Barbarians of Carn Dum, Numenorean Warriors, Galadhrim Regiments, Dunleding Warriors? Defence 6 is still heavily armoured, you just need to keep them in 5+ company formations. Defence 5 or less is low. Defence 6 do not die fast, unless your fighting the Mordor Royal Airforce. Defence 6-7 is common, your defence 8 is incredibly rare. Plus 2-handed weapoms are very good, Orcs with 2-handers (defence 3!) are very useful.

And when it comes to heroes, you also need to think about their pts value, you could swap Dain for Gimli if you prefer but Dain is a Counsellor. Balin is there for cheapness, like Durburz, Faramir, Isildur, Thrydan etc.

A very good list. For the 50pts hero I'd take Deorwinë, renamed as your favourite member of the 13 dwarves from the Hobbit.
