In a peace time modern world view maybe. But look at from a 1935 point of view. The Dwarves are a patrol size group of possibly hostile aliens caught trespassing deep in your territory. They refuse to give a reasonable explanation of their mission. It would then be reasonable that they were enemy agents or spies. Of course they were locked up.

The author was a WW I veteran. WWII was well under way when he was writing this and nationalism was PC. Un- like now.
I think we are supposed to under stand that the elves were in the right.

Hobbit fans need only wait seven months between the second and third instalments of Peter Jackson's highly anticipated trilogy.

Warner Bros Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures announced the final film in the series will be called The Hobbit: There and Back Again and released worldwide on July 18, 2014.

The title was taken from the second instalment, which will now be called The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The launch dates for all three films are -The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, December 14 2012; The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, December 13 2013; The Hobbit: There and Back Again, July 18 2014.

Adapted from JRR Tolkien's beloved masterpiece, The Hobbit series will be released in High Frame Rate 3-D, other 3-D formats, IMAX and 2-D.

Sounds cool but I was never a fan of the "desolution of smaug' title. Oh well, I hope it'll grow on me.

That does confirm the 48fps is only for 3D though.

Sorry if someone has posted this already but I didn't want to read through all 5 pages of replies!!

First movie: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (dealing with of course the first half of the book)
Second movie: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (obviously dealing with the last half of the book)

This is the interesting part. According to what I have read via EMPIRE magazine, the third movie will be The Hobbit: There and Back Again. This movie will deal with a lot of whats in the appendix of the LOTR trilogy, so we will get a lot of the stories from in between to tie all four books together.

This is just what I have heard through the Grapevine & how I took it, granted I hope its true because it could be pretty interesting. Either way I am pumped for all three!!!
