Hey everyone

So i've been playing A LOT of Lord of the Rings Online lately. I have been incredibly inspire by some of the scenery there, particularly in the Ered Luin and i was astounded at the huge statue in Thorin's Hall. Having just seen the announcement for a bronze statuette of thorin, Gandalf and Bilbo, i really want to have a few statues of mighty warriors that dont just look like the 28mm scale models painted to look like a statue.

My question is how would i go about doing this. I have the two options - to make or buy. I am useless with sculpting with greenstuff and the like so i may need to buy.

Do you guys have any idea where i could buy something that i could put on a plinth as a statue for my terrain?

Thanks guys,

Batman of the Shire

(btw for those of you that do play LOTRO, my dwarf profile is Thostek)

I agree that the LOTRO landscapes are very inspiring. In fact it was LOTRO that got me into SBG (I wanted a couple of Hobbit mini's to paint up like my online character).

Which LOTRO server do you play on (I'm on Laurelin)?

I play Silverlode (only level 15 at the moment)

Hey Aaron,

Tricky question! I guess you could take a model that looks sorta statue-like (one with both feet on the ground, maybe a heroic pose, etc) and make a podium out of cardboard or whatever. Chipping away at parts of him to simulate weathering could look quite effective too... That's the DIY version anyway.

There are some statues in the 'Ruins of Middle Earth' or the 'Ruins of Osgiliath' sets (I think those are the names) but they could be hard to come by nowadays. Search ebay for old Battle games in middle earth magazines, I recall issue 22 coming with some plastic ruins and a statue! You could also try looking at your local toy store for train set props... They're easier to come by than games workshop stuff (where I live anyway!) and usually have some pretty good stuff. I mainly buy decorative stuff like flock/static grass/leaves from model train shops, haven't really looked for statues but you never know!

Personally, I think you should give making your own statue a shot!

(Excuse the long post by the way, I got carried away haha!)

GW still sells both ruins of osgiliath and ruins of middle-earth. They both have statues of grim looking men. You could try finding a bigger miniature that the ones used for the game, and make a statue out of it.

Well there's a guy on that web page that said they were a bit too small to fit in with his warhammer models, I'd say that's about the perfect size for lotr!

Since they are a tad larger, why not look at GW's Dwarfs for a suitable statue?

I've always liked the look of the Thomarillion stuff, but haven't made any purchases due to the overseas shipping.
