Hey all,

some of you may have already seen my armored Legolas conversion </shameless plug>, but I am currently working on some conversions for Angmar - inspired by Buhrdur (a.k.a. the most epic anniversary gift ever from my wife). Due to an inexplicable affinity for monsters that I don't yet have a legit army to host with, I have 3-4 cave trolls in my collection. The problem of course being that Buhrdur is not a _cave_ troll chieftain, but a _hill_ troll chieftain. The solution?

buy a box of orcs to make an angmar army!!!

*cough* besides that, make some hill troll conversions!

still very much WIPs. cloth made from newspaper covered in superglue (I think hill troll #1 is currently donning the stock futures - goes to show what they are worth), straps are from thin plasticard. My first attempt at sculpting fur in this quantity. I need to come up with a few more ideas for the others. I'm pondering adding an arnor shield or something randomly strapped on for armor. . .

any inputs, ideas, CC welcome!

Great looking conversion work - the fur is very well textured. Show us more as it developes!

Ah, the inclusion of the wargs head really make that fur pelt pop out. Awesome!

Wow love the conversions. That warg fur coat is awesome! Look forward to the finished result and for them to be painted. :)

I really like this project, its awesome and your work is really good, but did you have to behead a poor innoscent (ok not innoscent) Warg for it?

LoL @ Gothmog (no... really. it was out loud I swear). My bro has a warg filled Moria/Angmar army and those are his sentiments exactly. I might as well of beheaded his puppy or something... =P

I guess technically no, I could have attempted to sculpt one... but there is still time for that. I have 2-3 others in line behind him waiting for conversions. Chances are you will see some of the other parts of that hapless warg spread among the others. If it is any comfort, his twin is being incorporated into my Isengard force - kinda like the way the US President pardons a turkey for thanksgiving?

Thanks for the compliments all. I'm taking tomorrow off work (Hobbit day!) so we'll see if I can make some more progress over the long weekend.

Nice one, the fur certainly does help distinguish them as one off Buhrdur's tribe and that warg head is just brilliant. It's a cool idea for a project, great looking too.

Thanks BW. You know, I just found your blog a short while back. you've got some cool stuff there yourself - one of several bloggers that inspired me to delve a bit more into the sculpting side of this hobby. 8)

cool, I'm the same, I get a lot of drive from seeing other people doing their thing, especially sculpting. btw nice use of the newspaper, I've seen it used to make tents and huts with great effect, never even dawned on me it could be used for clothes. I'll have to try it out sometime ;)

Update:

so I didn't make quite as much progress as I'd hoped this past weekend - I came down with a cold instead :(

but here is the progress to date

troll 1 got an extension on his chain with some bone fragments
Image

troll 2 got some serious work

Image

added jowls, wooden armor (bits of popsicle sticks with staples for binding), leather strapping and a scavenged orc shield

Image

swiped a jump ring from my wife's jewelry making box to make the back harness

Image

arm still is not attached, but working on the wood armor (fragments of pine bark). I've filed down/hacked off most of the spear part so now it looks more like a giant stake hewn from a branch

Image

trying to get as much done as I can in the next day or two - before I have to clear the table for holiday party guests this weekend!

Now its gtting even bbetter. Simply fantastic Trolls, I admire your dedication to the Hill Troll thing, and your sculpting work on that fur and your use of bitz is very effective, it looks better with more variety too methibnks. And i'm so glad you haven't murdered any more Wargs :D

All in all, good job

Thanks all. This has been my biggest conversion project to date, and a lot of fun to pull off. Currently trying to put together a massive siege game for christmas eve with some friends - hopefully these beasties will earn the right to be painted from the carnage they cause.

No, no more murdered wargs (yet), but the one murdered warg is going to undergo a more involved autopsy once my last troll arrives. and I've been working on sculpting a nice warg skull and sundry bones. still debating whether to try my hand at a warg head helmet for troll 2
