Hmm, the pose of that pointing High Elf looks very familiar! One of my very first conversions was quite similar. :)

My rangers of arnor arrived today.

But I'm not allowed to touch them until after my 13+ habs interview (about 2 o'clock)

This is the paint scheme i'll be using. Any tips are welcome. Or suggestions for paints, as i haven't got many yet

Skin- Bugman's Glow washed with Reikland Fleshshade
Cloaks- The Fang washed with Nuln Oil
Metal- Leadbelcher
Leather- Rhinox Hide
Wood- Mournfang Brown
Cloth/ other clothing- Caliban Green/ Waaagh! Flesh washed with Agrax Earthshade

Any help would be great on choosing other colours or perfecting the current ones.

Which of the two greens do you think would be best?

Thanks,

LordElrond

Lord Elrond your mum sounds like a true hero, haha! :D

I think that looks like a solid start for your rangers, mate. I suggest you invest in a shade of white (either 'pure white' = White Scar or 'creamy colour' = Ushabti Bone) that you can mix to the colours you mentioned for highlighting the leather, wood, cloaks, etc.

I have never used Waaagh! Flesh before and I'm not entirely sure if it's a lighter or darker shade of green haha! I suggest trying out both? Caliban Green is a nice lush green like used on the cloaks here and might be more to your tastes. Or you could mix the two for a more unique colour?! :D I'm looking forward to seeing your rangers. I've also started a contingent, I'll let you know when I've made some progress and show you what colours I use?

I'll try to use my persuasiveness to order the paints tonight.

I'm thinking of buying:
The Fang
Nuln Oil
Rhinox Hide
Caliban Green

I might as well get one other colour as well as postage under £10.00 is £3.00 and another paint is £2.30, which would bring the total just over £10.00.

The reason I ask about the two greens is I already have Waaagh! Flesh from the starter pack. The Rohan cloaks are painted with this on page 1 if you want to see the colour.

I already have white scar, as it came in the starter set. When should I apply this, before or after washing?

Sounds like a good start buddy, good luck! My advice would be to divide the rangers up so some of them have green cloaks and are a bit different. Take your time and I'm sure they'll look great! We'll all be watching with interest :)

I think Bugmans Glow might be too dark for their skin, it would be a good basecoat but you will probably need something lighter to highlight the skin with. It is just my two cents about the painting scheme. Otherwise it looks very similar to what other has been using for their rangers on the forum.

What would I use to highlight it?
Or should I mix it with a white such as White Scar or Ushtabi Bone?

I'd recomend using 'Ushabati bone'. I find the off white colour helps retain more of the colour as oppose to pure white, which sometimes make the highlight colour a bit 'washed out'.

I meant mix it with the base colour to create the highlight colour :)
