Looking great.

Not to side track but are the trees you use a kit or do you do them yourself?

Thanks buddy!

Yeah, look forward to finishing them... although the horses will be the last thing that get painted in my collection!

Got Eomer and Erkenbrand to look forward to painting too and the Mounted RRG and Sons of Eorl when they arrive. Painting these individual models will feel like a treat after painting all these warriors!

Thanks Pilgrim! Appreciate the feedback :)

Thanks buddy! I raided ebay as I was holding a "games night" on Thursday and as a beginner, had no terrain!

So tonight I thought I'd finish off three of my rangers of the north with highlights etc! Just the bases to do for now and I'm reasonably happy with them for now :)

Nice painting. My one critique would be that the shadows around his eyes are too dark. The third guy especially; he looks Goth/Ozzy-ish. :o Try using something like dark flesh around the eye rather than black.

Maybe some Mounted RotN ey...? Haha can't wait to see it all Matt, keep up the inspirational work and thanks for your support on here as always. If you ever have any tips based on what you see, let me know! PS would love a three hunters aragorn if you ever come across another one! Let me know :-D

Thanks for the feedback buddy, I appreciate it! I've been so worried about even going near the eyes in these early days of painting that I've left them completely untouched! I'll certainly take your advice when I have the confidence to tackle eyes in the future. All tips much appreciated!

Thanks everyone.

Attempted to base with sand yesterday and it went horribly wrong. I'm guessing even lightening caliban green with white is the wrong way to go?! Have had to cover with big bushes to hide the shockers!

I certainly will! The three hunters Aragorn is probably my second favourite sculpt, just behind Captain of the White Tower Boromir... and now I own both! Such a happy chappy! If I ever pick up a spare 3H-Aragorn it'll have your name on it ;D

Keep up the good work, friend!

I have! Made a mess of the first attempt with sand etc and think I've got the wrong green anyway... so for now (for the sake of tonight's game atleast) I've got them springing from the bushes like my other Rangers :)

I'll take a pic now!

@Matt - Haha again, we both have great taste, 3H Aragorn is one of my favourite sculpts... but I don't have him yet... one day!

Quick picture of them based!

Plenty of pictures of them in action last night, which I'll put up this afternoon!

Your rangers look cool Thermo I like your scenic photos. If I might comment something and I don't want to sound harsh, but you could use some smoother tranisations for your highlights. I'm sorry if that sounded harsh : / They looks great otherwise!

That's not harsh at all! It's great feedback and that surely is how one will improve!

For highlighting so far I've literally been doing the following -

Post wash, after they've dried, I've reapplied the original base coat to the raised areas. Then for the final highlight, it's been a rough 50/50 mix of the base colour with either white or bleached colour. To my inexperienced eye, I've been quite pleased with how they look on the tabletop but how do I take that next step in quality?

Advice and critique is very very much appreciated!

Your approach is sound, Thermo, to make the highlight blend in to the background colour, I would add a few drops of water to the paint till it's milky! Then gradually drag the brush across the designated area :) takes a few times to get used to but once you've mastered it you'll never highlight differently haha! Just make sure the paint on your brush is very well diluted and if a droplet forms, quickly brush the paint off your brush and use the dry tip to 'suck up' the stray paint drop :)

Good luck!

Brilliant advice Matt!

I shall try that on the remaining 12 Rangers of Arnor - they only need highlights and bases to be done :)

I'll post pictures of my progress :)

Only just seen this Ste!

Thanks for the encouragement pal, will get there slowly I'm hoping! But good to hear I'm improving :D

Think I'll take 1000pts grey company/Arnor since its closer to being "done" than the rohan. Don't have a baddie army though :(

Sounds good re:inventory, won't take me long to our mine together! Do it on Thursday?

Spare Dunedain sounds awesome :) chat Thursday!

Hey Thermo - finally to round to commenting on here ;)

Don't know if you remember my tip from our first game, but the best way (or simplest) of getting the highlights to blend more smoothly is to apply the wash after the highlight - you can always add a touch of the original highlight in very thin lines or at corners etc if you'd like to make it pop, but the wash after the highlight smooths the transition.

Looking great nd still inspiring me to get painting (maybe I will even actually DO some painting, lol :D ).
