Cheers, thanks for the feedback. :)

Here's a small update on some stuff I've been working on last weekend.

Image
This is a mini of the Sheriff of Nottingham from some small company that I didn't know before. I found it on Northstarminiatures website, I think. I will be using him as some kind of Counsellor in Gondor, Rohan, Dale, Arnor or somewhere else. He looks slightly twisted, so I might even use him as a spy of Sauron or something like that.

Image

Image

Image
This is the group of Orcs that I recently painted, led by the Witch-King (which I painted yesterday). The Orcs were re-based on thin Renedra 25mm bases, which I think look much better than the thicker GW bases. This is how I will be basing all my models in the future.
The Witch-King model is made by Mithril Miniatures and was made as an exclusive models for LotRo players I think. I got it second hand from a friend, and I really liked it. Mithril minis are 32mm scale, but I think this is only fitting for the Witch-King of Angmar!

Image

Image
Random 'cinematic' picture that I will use in my Campaign Fan Supplement in the Sieges section (here, the Swan Knight sally forth).

Image
I got this WH Chaos Fury in an auction of some various models. He was missing his wings, but I realised I could use him well for LotR. For this, I sculpted more fur on his back (where the holes for the wings were) and I added some Green Stuff to make the skull he was walking around with looked like a rock instead.
I will use this model as one of the many nameless creatures Morgoth created and perverted. I imagine some of these could also have survived in the deep places of the world. This is also one of these nameless horrors that Gandalf mentions when passing through Moria, I imagine.

That Fury certainly does fit the bill and of course the right sort of paint job always helps 8)

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

@ garmenhord: the model is roughly 28 mm high, so he might be a bit small for a Balrog. Even in the books (from which I imagine them being smaller than the movie Balrog) I imagine a Balrog being bigger than a human (say between human and troll). But it could definitely be painted like a Balrog!

@ John Wayne: thanks. I'm really fond of the bases actually: I'll be basing all my next work on them I think. The rims are thinner than GW's bases, and also more steep. This way, they are less visible on the table top and you will also get just a tiny bit more space to decorate the base! Perfect to me. :)

Next up are some minis from War of the Ring the Board Game! I'll probably post some pictures next weekend.

Well, yes, that's a fair point. :)
Maybe they actually fit Tolkien's earlier imagination of them. In his earlier works on the Fall of Gondolin, he had a host of Balrogs riding horses! This could well be an early dismounted Balrog then, haha!

Here's an update again.
I've bought some 10mm miniatures at http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/ra ... ?range=FAN and they happen to be perfect for what I wanted to do. Over the past few years, I've been making a set of rules for playing map campaigns. I've made a Gondor/Mordor Map and a Harad Map. To represent the armies, I've so far used 25mm bases with a small banner on it.
But no more! From now on, I will be using 15mm bases and 10mm models to represent the armies.
Here are some pictures of the models I've bought.

Image
To be Gondor Normal Armies.

Image
To be Rohan Cavalry Armies.

Image
To be Warg Rider Cavalry Armies.

Image
To be Mordor Normal Armies.

Image
To be Rohan and Fiefdom Normal Armies.

A Gondor Normal Army on his base.

Size comparison.

Also, I've made some bases with Green Stuff for a certain Barman (Ebob Townsfolk) and a Women (Gripping Beast).
Image

Another project I'm working on, is painting all the War of the Ring the board game minis. It's an excellent game and if you haven't played it yet, I can really recommend it! The minis are 25mm scale and are soft plastic. The details are thus not as good as GW's minis, but they are still pretty good! It's actually very nice to paint these for a change. :)

Image
Aragorn, Frodo & Sam, Gandalf

Rohan Regular units.

Image
Saruman

Image
Dwarf Elites. Note that the one with the blue and silver details will be the elite that I will use when one is recruited in the Blue Mountains, while the other will be primarily for the Erebor/Iron Hills regions.

Only drawback of painting these models is that I have at once got another 204 minis to paint.. Oh well, at least I'm 'already' at nearly one tenth!

tiny guys, but they look quite cool, might be even fun to use them on a diorama - backdrop or something. To give the impression of soldiers doing battle in a distance

Yes, the amount of detail on them really surprised me!
That's actually a great idea! Might just do that, as I think I'll have some spare ones anyway.

The board game minis look rather nice and look smashing with your paint job, I particularly like the Saruman miniature.

Thanks Crucium Giger! ;) I'm also especially fond of how Saruman turned out.

Here's a small update on some work I did on my Gondor armies this weekend.

First off, I'm converting one of my four Fellowship Boromirs I have lying around to be blowing his horn.

Image
I will obviously resculpt the cloth and neck later. First, the head and arm had to be repositioned.

Secondly, an order from Crusader Miniatures came in. I ordered a Varangian Command and 2 packs of Varagian Axemen in full armour (20 models in total). The models can be found here: http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/prod. ... b=9&page=1
and here:
http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/prod. ... b=9&page=1
I will use these as Axemen of Lossarnach, as they are very close to how they are described in the Return of the King book and I very much prefer them over the GW Axemen. Since I have each warrior 4 times, I'll do some small conversions (adding longer hair, adding pouches, changing heads).

Command

Image

The bases I used, are from Renedra. They are 2mm thick, so a bit thinner than the GW bases.
That's it for now, I'm looking forward to paint the Axemen!

Also, I started painting some Gondor Armies, a Rohan/Gondor Army and a Gondorian Messenger army marker. These will be used for my campaign supplement and in the next campaign against Coën this summer!

Image

Gondorian Messenger

These are still WIP, though. Note that the armies are based on 15mm bases, and are 10mm scale themselves. You can imagine that painting the White Tree was quite a challenge!

These might make good statues for Moria 8)
I will take a look at the Game.

Your pant work is well done :yay:

You have been very busy! Very creative work and a lot of it. Boromir blowing the Horn of Gondor is one conversion I cannot recall seeing anywhere else (though I don't trust my lousy memory) - show us more WIP!

Those 10mm minis are looking great, nice work.

I've always wanted to try my hand at painting something in that scale (and I really like Copplestone's range) but I just don't have an excuse to invest in them - maybe I need to run a map game myself.

That's some great work so far. I love the Boromir and Sharat conversions. You can use the copplestone figures to play Battle of the Five Armies game.

Boromir is a fantastic pose, that will look epic when painted up. Great idea.
