So this is the first scenario out of the Unexpected Journey book and I have to say I had a lot of fun playing it! In the scenario Thorin's company faces of against the 3 trolls, they can claim victory by slaying the trolls, or defeat if they are themselves all killed or stuffed into sacks. The game is a draw if neither side can complete their objective before sunrise.

First off, I played as Thorin's company and my friend as the trolls. We both were a little overwhelmed by all the special rules/abilities and forgot some of them but it was still a fun game. The rush to defeat the enemy by daybreak makes it a fun and hectic scenario! Our game ended in a draw with only Bilbo dead on the good side whereas 2 trolls were slain, only Tom remaining, still with 3 wounds but no might/fate left.

Here are some general thoughts:

-Heroic Strike is vital to overcome the superior fight value of the trolls
-Some of the dwarves aren't very skilled fighters but their abilities are useful and they can also aid in surrounding the trolls.
-I used Bilbo to lure away one of the trolls and then used Ori and Kili to fire on the troll as it was left in the open.
-Brutal power attacks are awesome! Bill's is especially nasty and Gloin luckily only suffered 1 wound by rolling a 6.
-Thorin was stuffed into a sack but managed to recover the following turn, nonetheless it seems like a very useful rule

I will probably replay the scenario next weekend with the board finished and everything painted/based. Hopefully we can remember all the little rules as they give you so many tactical options to choose from. A full battle report may be on the cards!

He means the hobbit rulebook meatboy :p

Yeah I like heroic strikes, it balances out the new powerful monsters really nicely.

I will have to try that scenario Scib, last week played the 2 large Goblin town scenarios out of the same book, and they are very good.

A battle report with pictures would be very nice :) I still are not fully aware of all of the new rules but I think these special abilities really make small games like this very fun.

The monsters brutal power attacks are especially entertaining, my favourite is the one where they pick up and launch an enemy model across the board

So, I have my miniatures painted and based. The board is done but I need some scenery for it! I won't be able to play a game for a week or two unfortunately but then this will give me some time to pick up some pieces.

I don't suppose anyone here has ordered with Antics in the UK? Their stuff looks really good and I don't want to pay GW £20 for 3 trees that I have to assemble and paint myself!

Looking forward to the report :D
I've never played the scenario and would like to see how it turns out.

No it is in the new big rulebook.

The Escape from Goblin Town rulebook, only has the 6 points match scenarios. Escape from Goblin Town does come with a separate scenario book but they are all small scenarios set in Goblin Town.

The big rulebook has a number of scenarios before and after Goblin Town (plus a few from Lord of the Rings).

Thanks

It doesn't seem to say. We've been playing it as they enter play from whichever board edge you chose Kili to start on.
