Hey guys,

I was wondering: Why hasn't GW come up with new orc sculpt for the battle of Azanulbizar? It's in the movie, it's a major battle, and they look a bit different than the orcs GW has been making for 10 years now. Any ideas? :)

Hold on, going to watch that scene now..

The orcs look pretty much the same, they only seem larger because of the height of the dwarves.
They are clad in a bit more clothing because of the cold I think.
Only Azog is a giant among orcs.

Lots of Grim Hammer look a likes in that battle. (or they are grim hammers!)

To answer your 1st question, they didn't make new sculpts indeed, but I suspect new sculpts with the releases of the next 2 films.

I think that the hunter orcs are in-part meant to cover that battle as well. You do have Azog, Bolg, Yazneg, and Fimbul there as well

The orcs in the battle were supposed to be giant Gundabad orcs as they are described in the literature and in the film. Bizarrely enough I was having exactly the same conversation with my cousin earlier. There are a remnant described as Bolg's body guard in the battle of the five armies in the Hobbit. I suspect that they have been kept back so that they can be released with the third film however, it is a shame as they are warriors that I would like to be able to field. I have been working on an army of Thror to re-enact the battle of Azanulbizar, and they need an enemy to fight! Also I am keen to get enough miniatures ready for a Hobbit figures only Battle of aroung 1,500 a side, and the Evil force needs some hard hitting elite troops!

1500 points of A2 S4 Hunter Orcs sounds pretty hard hitting to me :)

Marketing wise it just seems like a good deal for GW, perhaps giving them new stats. And Bilbo, do make a battle report on that. ;)

The Dwarves present were ( i think) a mix match between the grimhammers and the Erebor Dwarves armed with axes, swords, spears and shields. the current erebor dwarves miniatures...are more likely representing the dwarves as they were booted out by Smaug

I suspect so, and I would really like some more expensive (points wise!) elite orcs to cut down on the amount of work required, also I like the Orcs and variation. I am presently in excess of 1,000 points of evil and about 940 or Good, however a lot of the good heroes and troops I am yet to paint have a high points cost.

Yes, I will have a go at the battle rep.

Was thinking about this the other day and as has already been mentioned I think they will be releasing more orcs in the last film release at the latest.

They'd better be! I detest the old orc kit and I could do with some all-purpose troops to back up my Morannons.

They were all "Grim Hammers". All of the dwarf soldiers have grim hammer armour. GW just used used the appearance of the dwarf soldiers in the film and turned them into the "elite" dwarf unit for the sbg. They then invented the warriors of erebor to be a "standard" unit.

Their size is outdated as well. Thorin is larger than most of them...

Not against F4 D7 dwarves. Or F4 D5 humans. Or F5 D3 elves.

As mentioned earlier I think these will be released when the third film comes out. probably BOTFA.

I would definitly buy some of these new orcs! they'll look cool in my current mordor army

Your dice must hate you to have Fight come up enough to make that big a difference...

When you have less fight, all it takes is one 6 for your opponent to win.

I can't see Azunilbizar Giant Gundabad Orc having a fight less than 4 (which would almost seem a bit mean!) if they had a fight of 5 they would really give Elves something to wet their pants about!

If they had a fight of 5 and a generic hero with fight 6, I would like to see some sort of number or company limit in place to stop every little Jonny turning up at the tournament etc with the same army of Super Orcs!

If they had that high of fight, they would most likely be expensive enough that not too many people would bring an entire army.
