Hi everyone. I've been around the site and checking things out and I wanted to start a WIP for my Galadhrim to motivate me to continue the hobby. So for my first WIP post, may I have your opinions on my basing? Here are a few pictures of my first two Galadhrim Warriors:

I started with sand, painted it up, then added dried moss to the top to try and give it a foresty feel. I do like it, but I want opinions from you guys on what I could improve on for the future warriors. More variety in colors? More moss, less moss, anything?

I will try my best to post more pictures of my guys as I complete them and hopefully get some better painting and basing techniques.

They look pretty good, I do like alot that colour scheme setup you have choosen

I too really like your color scheme, especially with how you are doing the bases. Your elves just blend in to their environment that way.
My only advice comes on the paining side, highlights and shading. Those cloaks would look amazing with a little bit of both, and it would make the faces more life-like.
I do want to give you props for doing the teeth, Ive only begun to paint teeth on my models consistantly myself.

Those look great, but i'd use about 40% less moss on each model.

I like the colours you have used. I agree with VictoryGin about using a little less moss on the base. The eye is drawn to the base instead of the model, and you want the model to be the focus.

As with JamesR I think highlighting and shading is your way forward. Keep your paints thinned to at least 50/50 water paint and build multiple layers.
You can do easy shading with some dark washes.

Your bases are very good! For me I find that variety is key. I would use more than just one plant, and the addition of rocks can really set things off. I use a combination of real rocks picked from the driveway and painted up, Hydrocal rocks I make from Woodland scenic molds, and torn up bits of wine cork. They are nice because you can paint rocks in a variety of fashions. Get some tall field grass and glue around the edges of the rocks, or as small clumps in more of a wasteland area. I use both clump foliage and underbrush for bushes, and then I also lay down little patches of Fine Turf (all woodland scenic products). Make sure you use all different colors, ie light green, medium green, etc). In the past I have used plastic and wire trees as well. I have been wanting to use ferns but I cant find any small enough near by. MiniNatur makes really nice flowers that can be used to really tie it all together. And also, don't be afraid to cut the mini off the base tag and build the base up (a la DMS) although I don't know how that would affect gaming since I don't play. Get a pin vice, match the drill bit to the diameter of a paper clip. Drill a hole up one or both legs, and down into your base to attach. I hope that helps, you are off to a great start with those minis!

Hey guys, sorry this has been so long ... College + Physics + Organic Chemistry = no painting or gaming time!

But now that I do have some time before finals and stuff come to fruition, I actually have some more pictures of miniatures that I have been working on! Right now I'm just going to show you the iron guard that I have been working on. They aren't finished yet, but I have most of the base colors on them. I will hopefully be finishing their beards and hands soon, followed by highlighting and washing them soon. But I'll probably upload some more of my Galadhrim Elves before that because I want to get them finished with their basecoating before I move on.

So here is my first shot of the Dwarves with Dryad Bark on their packs and belts. And then Castellan Green on their clothes.

And then here is my work on them after I have added Leadbelcher to the weapons, chainmail, and helmets. Along with Warplock Bronze added to their faces and attachments to their helmets.

At this point I took a break and took some more photos so you could see them up close. I tried to get a decent shot of each pose.

I should have their finished basecoat soon and then elves will be on the way! If anyone has any comments or criticism they would like to share, you are more than welcome! I always want to find ways to improve my painting and basing techniques.

Back to painting and magnetizing! I recently finished these two eagles this weekend. I used the painting scheme and techniques from Garfy's eagle guide.

Both eagles are magnetized and completely removable where the normal plastic ball would fit. Looking forward to adding Gwaihir and two more eagles eventually ...

Love the eagles, I have these to do yet ans can't wait. How about a very light drybrush of a light grey over the feathers to ring out the detail ever so slightly, it will make a big difference.

Gandalf the Grey, thank you for the painting advice. I have plans to paint two more eagles and Gwaihir in the future and I think I will try to add another light dry brush of grey or a very light brown over the top of them. I would do this to these two but I have already sprayed them both with a varnish and I'm not sure how painting over it will work. But if you or anyone else has any painting or basing advice then please C&C. I am always looking to improve!

So I've been working on Hirst Art projects instead of painting miniatures and I wanted to share some of my completed work. I have made both the travelers bridge and prison tower according to the building instructions but I painted them differently.

The travelers bridge. The second photo shows some miniatures on it for scale and because I was having fun setting up some mini battle scenes.

And then here is the prison tower. I didn't add any doors or bars because I want to use it as primarily a playable tower and want my army to be able to utilize all aspects of it. The tower also comes apart in 3 pieces for storage and to be able to put minis anywhere on the building. I hope to use these techniques on future projects I have planned!

The prison tower used a darker base color than the bridge and I actually thought it came out too dark when I was finished. So on the bridge I used the highlight from the tower as my base and went all the way up to a pure white highlight on the bridge. But I've actually come to really like the darker color of the tower even though I think the bridge's color looks more realistic. Either way thanks for looking and anyone is welcome to give advice on anything they think I should try to improve on in the future. That includes the minis I've used for scale in the pictures.

Next up is the octagon tower and dragon's inn! After that I have plans for some Rhun-ish buildings inspired by roman and oriental castles.
