Thats a well painted Dwalin! Are you going to try painting the tattoos too?
I like the subtile highlights on the cloth and leather, and the concersion is a nice touch too! :)

Thanks Rognarr :)

No, I won't be doing the tattoos, I don't particularly like tattoo in the film (or in real life for that matter) so I decided not to put them on the mini
:)

Another update today: it's Gandalf :-D

I'm rather very much pleased with this one, especially the eyes. I'm also really happy with how the conversion went (although the thumb is a bit of a mess)

anyway... C&C very welcome as always :)

Thanks for looking

Looking great! The eyes are nice indeed and the details on the sleeves are very well executed :)

Excellent painting Sid! You've really improved since you started, and your painting has become top notch! Keep it up! :yay:
I also love the conversion. He looks to be travelling now. I happen to 'need' a travelling Gandalf, so I might steal the idea. ;)

Excellent looking Gandalf Sid. The layering on the robes and scabbard are superb.

Some nice work here Sid. You coming on nicely.
I would look toward adding more shade to bring out he highlighting you've done. Stand a lamp directly above and see where the shadows are, that is always a great starting point.

Thanks Gandlaf!

Yeah, my wash has been acting up recently, you can see the deep black places (around the belt pouches) and also the grey patches (on and around the pouches), It just seems to be not working right so I don't know what up with that  =/
Any suggestions?

How thick are you applying the glazes ?
You need multiple layers to build the shade. Place enough on your brush so it will not pool on the figure. Now use the flat of the brush and drag it toward the darkest point. That pushes the darker paint into the recesses. Like I've said, you need multiple layers so keep checking on the result and see how you go.

That's just what I'm doing. Still all smushy though =/

I read that the newer washes can begin to separate if they sit for a while and this leaves the grey areas that you are talking about. The solution was simply to shake the bottle vigorously for a good time before opening it up and using it. Hope that helps.

I dug back in this thread a little to see some of the other stuff that you've been working on, and let me tell you, it was a real treat. Your conversions are nicely done and your faces are top notch. Excellent work, sir.
