lying in bed last night (where i do my best thinking) and had a thought; to do in Westeros what GW did for Middle-Earth. just a vague idea, but off the top of my head i can see a lot more troop variation than was originally in LOTR. i know most of us will have trouble financing even more game sytems, and that GW will want to milk the Hobbit for as long as possible, but i would be really excited to see something like this put into action. there are a few gaping holes in this idea of course;
-the fact that most of the "heroes" of GoT don't see much combat.
-it would be a very specialist game; i can barely justify LOTR for the amount of actual games i get.
-Games Workshop would make it on a larger scale to suit Warhammer, rather than the individual power of each single model, which i think is more suited to the heroic moments of Game of Thrones (sorry that was phrased so badly)
-and price

this is of course, purely imaginary. i'm hardly going to write to GW about this. let me know what you think!

In had the same brilliant idea some time ago. I was hoping to sculpt some miniatures of my own for it, but haven't had much time to do any sculpting yet.

I was pretty stumped on making some rules to. As you said, most characters don't see combat. I did think of making a set of rules to play the storyline from. You could just play the really small battles, such as Ned vs Jaime. There's not many big battles other than Blackwater and the ones in Robert's Rebellion. And the ones you don't see Robb fighting, but happen can be done. There's also the Ambush at The First Fist of The Men.

These battles vary in size, and it would be difficult to come up with suitable rules to replicate the battles.

Seeing this post may now give me a little rethink on the game myself. (Btw, I have a few sculpted items for A Game Of Thrones already)

Weird, I've also had this great idea?! To be honest I don't think the lack of major battles in GoT/aSoIaF would make it any less fun if it were to become an SBG. I mean how many people would be stopped from playing Haradhrim against Arnor or the Shire against Mordor just because of the narrative in the books? I would love to see a game system appropriate for Game of Thrones with no specific miniature. This would allow almost infinite variation within armies and between armies of the same faction. Okay, maybe a set scale would make sense and some dedicated character models but with more scope than GW might provide. I would just love to get some Unsullied, Second Sons and Dragons to go fight, I don't know, Stannis and Melisandre. I hope this becomes a thing!

I'm currently working on a game of thrones rulebook. Basically works like an inbetween variant of Flame of War and SBG with some influences from total war computer games. I'm maybe even going to use a system like in bolt action for turns.

I too have had this idea, I've tried to write out rules for some of them ... I just thought that the majority of it is just basic soldier vs basic soldier, more like a Warhammer Empire army than anything LotR has.

This seemed pertinent to the conversation:

make it two different games in one. one for big games, who cares if there are no real big battles in got. and one for the smaller battles with differen rules, maybe make totally different scenario rules. Then the scenarios are small battles and have different rules maybe make the heroes more powerfull in those games. And the big games are played more like war of the ring crossed with sbg.
any good ideas in this?

Souds like a great plan - make a WOTR version for those of us who already have mass-based their GoT armies ;)

32mm and they're only about £6.

With regard to OP, I have been thinking long and hard about this, for as long and hard as Tormund's member if I'm allowed to say that here.

I was wondering about all regions and so on:

You have the North with Rickard/Brandon alive, the you have Ned north and King Robb North. For Baratheons, you have Robert's United Forces, then Renly, Stannis etc. Then do you put the Tyrells on their own or not, you have Lannisters, you have Dornishmen you could do Princess of Dorne before Doran too), you have Ironborne (what about Theon?), Arryms - now that would be hard, you have the Tully's hoster-led then Edmure-led. Then with Freys you have them with Tullys/Starks but you also have them on their own, Boltons too. You have Mad Aerys Targaryens led by Rhaegar, then with Dany, you have the separate armies of the Dothraki, the Unsullied and the Meereneese. Then there are the Yunkaii and the Astaporoii, then you have Young Griff and the Golden Company etc

Then you have the Gollum's Littlefinger and Varys too. And Vary's co-conspiritor

I have actually started sculpting GOT miniatures. I may offer casts of them in the trade section to anyone interested. However this is only going to happen 2014 at the earliest.

You know, we could use WOTR rules for this and just rename the characters, titles, regions into GOT. Rohan could become Northmen for example, Gondor could be Lannisters, haradrim/mahud could be Dothrakys....etc. In fact any historical miniatures should be able to suffice for the core units. Also, to make it easy, you could find a set of existing wotr hero rules that best fits GOT characters. (maybe tweek them a bit). Heroes could be created through use of appropriate subsitutes, conversions or actual GOT character miniatures.

maybe an optional third player in the big game. This player will play wild forces like white walkers direwolfs and other forces of nature and beasts who dont like anyone. maybe this adds a little extra difficulty to the game. you will have to do this with someone you believe is neutral enough to not team up.

Mahud could be Dothrakii, but the Haradrim are Dornishmen.

Perry War of the Roses for Lannisters and Tyrells, without a second thought. When I've finished the rules I'll definitely post them somewhere on this forum
