Welcome to the December Painting Challenge. This months Challenge is the annual

Winter and Christmas

Image

Rules

If you are unsure as to whether something will be eligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it.

This challenge is open to interpretation. You are not limited to a single miniature. Dioramas are acceptable. The completed entry must have a winter and or christmas theme to it.

1.To complete the challenge a miniature must be completed by December 31st 2013.

2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniatures you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniatures 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible.

3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of December 31st 2013. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 6 photos of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from multiple angles.

4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills.

5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months.

Good luck to all

Interesting, I've gotta think what to do now. Maybe some Christmas themed hobbits or a winter shire? Maybe some of Santa's "elves"

I like the idea of Santa's elves. If I get time I'll probably have a go at some Xmas high elves

If I get time I'll do the lost Red Wizard, known to the citizens of Middle-Earth as Santa! (Gandalf, might be a conversion). I won't be able to start until at least the 14th though, cos that's when I get home.

I was initially stumped for ideas, however hobbits pulling crackers could be amusing, and I do have a lot of unused snow effects?

lol nice banner DMS.

I'll have to route out a miniature or two for this, the Christmas theme sounds like fun.

Nice idea for a theme, looking forward to seeing what people come up with! Not sure how generous/lenient DMS is gonna be with entries but this guy was next on my to-do list anyway so it can't hurt to try! Here's my potential entry, the SNOWY Orc on the SNOWY Warg

Big guy smashing some heads in for no reason whatsoever.. sounds just like christmas at our place!

May just have to get a quick order in for my Arnor army, that should provide ample opportunities for snowy business. Or maybe sculpt an angry snowman to paint up!

I remember 40 K "Christmas Marines" a lo0O0ong time ago! Something similar could be achieved but, you could only expect to get away with them on the tabletop in December!

That Balrog actually looks quite sinister in white! He could be a CChristmas Snow Balrog with icicles in stead of flame.

Well, this seems like a good challenge to enter my dwarven army into. No idea if I am still eligible to enter but there is quite some work to ne done still, inclusing the diorama. At least this will give me a nice deadline to work towards :)

Entering models:
Thror
Shieldbearer
Grim hammer captain
8 dwarves with shields
8 dwarves with spears
8 grim hammers
+ diorama of which I only have a vague idea what it is going to become.

I will post WIP pictures in the corresponding forum.
Regards,
Mortaal
