Hey guys, I am facing a siege this weekend where I will be versus a mixture of Mordor (led by witch king on fell beast), Moria, Isengard (troll and siege ballista) and goblin town to the tune of 2000 points.
I have a fair amount of good models available to me but have had some fun with dwarves lately (as lots on here have also!), so I'd like to field thorin and dwalin leading erebor warriors and grimhammers. Was also thinking of a contingency of woodelves to thin their ranks from afar and also minas tirith to help hold the lines Any suggestions as to what are good for defending in a siege? Cheers

High defense warriors with good fight value and units with strong bows. So in a perfect situation Vault Wardens and Elven Archers

Make sure your opponent is using approximately 1.5x as many points of models as you to make it fair. You already have high defence models and I guess Grimhammers will be perfect for holding a gatehouse as their throwing weapons will be within perfect range. Additionally the ability to bash models off of ladders will be pretty destructive.
I would put Dwalin behind your gate - his ability to demolish high strength models will be invaluable. Thorin on the walls (more might+terror will be great up there), and I would also personally go for Radagast - his ability to heal anyone within 12" will be invaluable.

If the attacker has only 1.5x as many points, give him some siege towers too. If only ladders are available for the attackers, you need at least 2x as many points on the attacker's side to make any chance.

if your oponent takes 2k get yourself around 1,500 more or so since you hold defensive position you have a considerable advantage.
Since hes using some of the cheese he can afford with all this mix, try this as an idea.
Defending a keep garrison
warband 1 Thorin oakenshield with orcrist and oakenshield 6 dwarves of erebor with shield 6 dwarves of erebor with shield and spear 229
warband 2 Dwalin 6 Dwarves of Erebor with shield 6 Grimhammers 215
warband 3 Erebor Captain with shield 6 Erebor dwarves with shield 6 Erebor dwarves with shield and spear 179
Warband 4 Tauriel 8 mirkwood rangers 202
Warband 5 Legolas with armour 7 mirkwood rangers 193
Warband 6 Floi stonehand 8 Khazad guards 158
Warband 7(white council) Gandalf the grey Radagast the brown with sebastian
1500pts
might: 20 (26 will total/ 17 fate total) models: 67 break at: 34
what you think?

Great tips there thanks guys! I really like that list but I think we will be doing similar to Dr Grant's idea for siege play (http://www.one-ring.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25384&p=316537&hilit=sieges#p316537) - where each side has 2000 points but half the defending force arrives in turn 10 of 20 and the attacks get reinforcements of killed units on a 3+
So might need to use some cav to rush into the battle. Was also thinking of thanduil with some elves at 2+ to hit would be nice?
Thanks again for the speedy replie! Much appreciated
