Wow! I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest this is the best painting challenge ever. The quality of these entries is outstanding. All of you should take a bow :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Alternate minis, scratch built sculpts, conversions, mind-blowing bases, brilliant painting - the list goes on.
It actually seems a shame there can only be one winner. I hope everyone gets a vote at least.

It is particularly hard to pick between Sithious (brilliant conversion, nicely painted), UKFreddy (outstanding sculpt as usual), Cuchulain (exceptional painting), Mertaal (one of the best and most creative bases I have seen - and really suits the mini), Scipio (great alternate ent/huon and very well executed - love the painting and extra foliage etc) and of course DMS (just gobsmackingly good again).

However, I did pick a winner - Coenus. The painting on this alternate troll is exceptional and the colours and shades gel together perfectly. It's also a really nice base. The whole thing fits together beautifully. Outstanding work.

Arghhhhhhhh so hard to decide! DMS' entry is stunning as always but JamesR gets my vote. The coolest paint job of the Necromancer I've ever seen and I love the magma eyes. Well done everyone!

I'm going to have to rave about my fellow competitors' work! There is not a single figure that I wouldn't be proud to call my own. Absolutely incredible work everyone! I've withheld my vote for now because I cannot decide!

If I may I would like to comment on every one lol

Coenus- the whole piece looks great but I'm especially fond of his cloak. The paint-job on that is ridiculous! Looks so real and furry

Erunion- I love this piece. For some reason this piece more than any other screams "ART" as in a work of. The stylized effect of the shading really draws my eye.

Sithious- This troll is superbly painted as well. And to me he just has so much character! I love the skinned watcher on his back. And I think the mouth and teeth look very real, just the part that jumps out to me lol

Mr Bear- This is my favorite sculpt you sell. And the paint-job is absolutely first rate. It looks like wood! Real wood. I'm unconvinced that you didn't simply carve it from wood.

Cuchulain84- I love this troll! I think it's the best looking skin I've ever seen painted on one.I look at it and it looks leathery, like I imagine a troll-skin would.

Bofur- I appreciate that you deviated from your original plan to paint Sauron as well. And it paid off. Tree-beard looks great. The wood is very well painted but the greenery growing on him is what takes it to that next level I think. Very impressive.

Feanor- I really like this piece. I love the muted colors you chose, and the divergence from AUJ in terms of color choices and overall aesthetic. I think the highlighting and shading are very good, especially on his cape/cloak
Mertaal- your troll looks great! I love the way you painted the skin. The shading and all looks very good. His runny nose is very very well done.I can tell because I am slightly disgusted looking at it lol It's that good. Also the base is very well done I like the mud effect quite a lot.

My piece- I like it. I didnt at first but it's grown on me lol my favorite part is the lower folds in his robe-thing.

Scipio.au- I have to admit I've always hated this sculpt. Until you got ahold of it! I love the grass for hair, makes it look like it was motionless for quite some time. Also the wood and growth on the wood is quite good, but I love the eyes. They make it look very elemental. If that makes sense.

DMS- First off this is my favorite sculpt I've ever seen period! That's not an exaggeration.
As to the painting it's incredible as always lol. The contrast between the fire and shadow looks superb but the lava on the base and the way the rocks are discolored takes it to that next level for myself.

And finally Orc-Archer. I really like the job you've done on the Goblin king. He's quite ugly (but very well painted to look that way lol) his skin looks dry and leathery and those sores look ready to burst and spray bacteria and puss everywhere! Yuck! Lol great job!

Wow, who to vote for...

Loads of amazing entries, but I think my favourites are all trolls:

Coenus' - Nicely painted, looks quite realistic (as realistic as you can go with a mythical creature...). Quite a human looking troll with those big bushy eyebrows.
Sithious' is great - I love the armour especially, and the conversion work really works well.
Mertaal's is amazing - the skin tone is perfect, snotty red nose is funny and the base is great. I don't believe theres too much mud on the legs - thats just what it'd look like if you traipsed through a bog!
Scipo's - I just love it, it looks so organic and believable, like a load of bits of tree stump and various forest material have just been pulled together into this conglomeration of a woodland spirit. The static grass really makes it work, and those eyes are great too.

Special mention to DMS for a great balrog too, but my vote will end up with one of those trolls. Now only to find a way to decide between them...

What a cracking comp this month, venerable shout-outs to Coenus Scaldingus, Mertaal, ukfreddybear and JamesR (love the fire paint job on the Necromancer) however my vote went to DMS.

And the standard of painting, conversion, basing, sculpting and photography has gone up another notch or three this time.....
There are many among those minis that would have been a close match for first place at any other time, but like CG, Gothmog Lord of Balrogs was the standout piece. So well done to DMS on the painting part and also to UKFB for a stunning sculpt.

Gotta go for Erunion - a very stylish take on one of my favourite models - looks like a 1950's noir-goblin.

Scipio - I love that sculpt and what you have done with it, which company makes it, you have inspired me to buy it.

UKFB: Will that Gothmog sculpt be commercially available any time soon?

An incredible standard here and my congratulations to everyone who entered.
I have ummed and aarrhhed about my vote but I. The end there was only one choice, Mertaal gets my vote. He has poured his heart and soul into this and has shown the most improvement I have seen in a long while. He has taken the step into a great painter.
The whole figure has been done incredibly well and the base is a huge stand out.
Dave and Kevs work is brilliant but you two are professionals in my opinion and Mertaals work is just about on a par.
A pleasure to view and decide upon.

No. Crucium Giger has the only one in the world. However, DMS and I are discussing whether or not a similar fire demon could be commercially viable. Large models are very difficult to get any profitability. They take an age to sculpt, are difficult to manufacture and are heavy to post.

I think the possibility of each voter member casting two votes should be considered. It was decidedly hard for me to choose only one entry. Congratulations to all participants; truly a very competitive challenge.

Tough vote is right. I'm torn between mertaals troll, Coenus troll , Sithious's troll agh all the trolls, Daves Ent and i quite like JamesR's necromancer too. In the end i decided to go with The Willow ent. A remarkable piece of sculpting with a fitting paint job. I'm going to have to come to you for advice on painting the hanging branches Dave if i ever get round to painting this thing. awesome job.

Well done to all entrants the standard of painting is getting crazy around here.
