Well, minor milestone passed: just finished a Drow army for Dungeons and Dragons, which, while not addressing the LOTR backlog, is still a transformation of not-really-gameable figures to figures one can use in a game. Sort of cheat, since many were pre-painted, but still.

Now, onwards, to the Warband challenge, which also counts towards my oath.

Just finished painting Frodo, Sam, Merry, Sam and Pippin. Working on some Hunter Orcs both mounted and on foot as well as Fimbul and some Fell Wargs. I'll keep y'all posted.

Just a question, do trades count as models gained/ gotten rid of?

I calculate how it affected my backlog totals. If I traded 6 minis, but only got 3 in return, I just don't count the trade. If I trade 3 and get 6, then I would count that as purchasing 3. Remember, the whole goal is to try and reduce the size of your backlog!

I'm really paying for my spending splurge at the start of the month. Still I have 21 sitting on the shelf just needing the base rims painting, can I finish 8 more by the end of the week? I'm having to be strategic in which models I choose. I really envy those who can paint so many models in one month!

Well, I have bought four figures this month and painted two of them. I have completed about twenty five figures this month. Hope to get those two new figures done by month's end.

The issue is, of course, that a friend is giving me their never opened Mines of Moria set soon. That means there will be thirty six goblins, nine heroes and a troll to add to the pile real soon. This on top of me getting Escape from Goblin Town at Christmas 2012 which I am only now addressing. There is a point to all this: I really did not like the Escape set but I decided to create a separate project set in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs involving Moria goblins, Goblin Town goblins and some random leftover Orcs. I bought some plastic dwarves around Christmas to go with it all. I figure I will be at this silliness till may or June. Me and my dumb ideas. Still. Progress.

I wouldn't count the gift against your totals. Sure, it increases your backlog, but you had no control over that, so it's not like you went out and made an impulse buy.

Luckily, I am too cheap to impulse buy much anymore. Though my several-year digression into D+D compatible miniatures did mean my LOTR backlog lay fallow for a long time.

Can I join the list - either for February or March? It should help force me to finish things once I have started. It may even reduce the money I spend.

Well, I just finished Fimbul on foot, 13 Hunter Orcs on foot and one mounted Hunter Orc. This brings my total for the month to 72 models painted against 14 gained through trades.

I highly doubt I'll be able to finish anything else in the next day or two; I have 36 Goblin Town Goblins, Grinnah, Goblin Captain and Goblin King up to basecoat. Those should take me the better part of two weeks, I would imagine.

I'll be lucky to get that much done all year!!

Most of my non work time is spent pushing my 5 year old on the swing!

Don't be so hard on yourself, mate! That's a ton of great stuff you picked up. Was it all at retail or did you get deals on it? If it's the former, you must have a very good job to pay for it all. If the latter, regale us with stories of how much $$$ you saved to make yourself feel better! :-D
