I have gotten some inspiration from Thermo about making Rohan work. He managed to make a 500pt all cavalry work, now I want to do the same with infantry.

However I am by no means a veteran of Rohan, having pretty much strictly played Galadhrim/Wood Elves my whole SBG career.
Here are my thoughts...

At 500pts:
Erkenbrand
Grimbold
Eowyn with Amour,shield
12 warriors of Rohan with shield/throwing spears
12 warriors of Rohan with shield
12 warriors of Rohan with bow (I'm not sure if outriders are the snake cost as these guys if so, then make it 12 outriders)

That comes to 436, so I'm thinking; add 2 banners, upgrade 12 to Helmingas, upgrade 4 to red shields. I'm pretty sure that totals out to 500 on the dot.

Those are just my musings, what do you all think?

You can't ugrade warriors of rohan to redshields. Only riders. I reckon that's pretty effective. Good heroic stats, numbers, banners, and elites for 500. Solid force me reckons. Helmingas are a must though. Gives a nice punch to the force. Some killing power. And yes I'd take outriders on foot which cost 7 I think...

No Royal Guard? I usually include a light sprinkling of Royal Guard in my Rohan armies. Then again, I never played competetively.

I'd drop the throwing spears and shields to get an extra warband in.

I'm not sure 2 banners is the way to go. The re-roll is nice, but there's bound to be more effective avenues for your points. I like the idea of maybe halving the number of throwing spears and bringing in a few Royal Guard (with shield) with Hama, Gamling, or even a standard captain to give you some elites with good defense.
Other than that I really like you're list as I disagree with James and Jamie on the effectiveness of the upgrade to strength 4, piercing strike is nice, but when you're facing an evil Horde army (such as Harad, Goblins, or Orcs) you're going to need to survive so their sight advantage in numbers is removed by their quicker deaths than your own troops.

My advice as an ex ROHAN player:

1. Don't bother with throwing spears on infantry.
2. Always mount heroes if possible.
3. Rohan has lots of fluffy allies such as; wood elves, Gondor, Woses, and if you are gonna try the infantry game you kinda need the boost.
4. Helmingas are great - then again I never use special strikes.

With that in mind here is a list i whacked up:

Erk on horse
12 Helmingas with shield.

Grimbold
12 Helmingas with shield.

Ghan Buri Ghan
9 Woses

I disagree on the throwing spear part.
They can be very effective. In my expierence, I've just had bad luck with them.
It depends on which army your opponent is playing as well.

I'd definitely drop WoR w/bow and take outriders in stead.
If possible, add some Rohan Royal Guard in each warband (1 or 2).

All infantry Rohan will be tough to play. Keep us updated on the list and on how well it worked out for you!

This is perhaps one of the few armies that the Kings Huntsman might be effective. Getting what is almost an auto hit can give you options throughout the game if positioned well. Just an idea, I personally love the model :puppy:

The king huntsman might eat too many points in a 500 points list, I don't know.
I really like the model's stats and I've included him in my 600 points list.

Good suggestion though!

I really like the look of the list there.
The difficulty of rohan infantry is the lack of spear support, this can somewhat be countered by shields and banners, essentially you use one warrior to shield against two enemies (one front rank and one second rank with spear), the banner is essential as it gives you an extra roll to win the fight and you will need to win as many as possible.
While some of your infantry ties up the enemy in this fashion the rest needs to be attacking the flank or getting behind the opponent, throwing spears here will hopefully help get that extra kill where you need it.

Also if you are taking any throwing spears, make sure you throw them as often as possible prior to the lines clashing, with 8inch range this is not as hard as would be thought.
Best of luck with this Haldir, let us know how you get on.

I'm still in the planning stage of this art and the only models I have so far are Grimbold and a box of warriors. My initial plan with them was to take then with my wood elf/galadhrim at 500pts, and now I've decided that trying an all Rohan list would be fun.

Having said that, if you guys think that the list mentioned above could work. Then I will definatly consider making it. But I probably won't be able to play a whole Rohan list for a few months yet.
Thanks for the help guys!

Oh! And feel free to keep up the discussion! It's really interesting and helpful!

(And LordElrond you are correct, my regular opponent is isengard)

Honestly, I say drop Grimbold and Helmingas.....make your troops all have axes! Piercing strike when you want gives you at least strength 4 if not 6!

And likes Marsbar said....whats Id do, is the Defenders of the Hornburg or Helsm Deep list and bring wood elf archers

I like Helmingas. Thats just my opinion. I also like throwing spears.

However, the fact that you are at around 430 points means that dropping one or the other can get you a cheap captain and around 7 more troops. Worth it if you ask me. :)
