It says in the rules the they cannot kill battlefield targets outright?

Does this mean that they cannot actually kill anything, only take lives off heroes? I think I might be misunderstanding this.

Thanks!

It means it doesnt cause instant death. Will just cause a wound as usual. I though the Gondor Trebuchet and Mordor Catapult did cause instant death to battlefield targets tho

Catapults and Trebuchets do cause instant death. It should only be the Avenger bolt thrower that does not.

So you basically need to keep your heroes out of range or under cover or they're screwed? I guess if they're behind a wall and out of sight then the enemy can't target them right?

You have to cause a wound with a catapult or trebuchet to kill. Fate can be used to prevent the kill shot.

In my experience they are so inaccurate that they are not worth teir point, except in sieges where they are ridiculously over powered due to their shrapnel effect.

So one successful wound from a catapult shot will automatically kill any character or hero, even if they have 3 wounds remaining, but then they can use their fate to recover one wound?

Why is the shrapnel effect better in sieges?

A direct hit (no scatter required for siege targets) on a building will cause damage to everyone within 2 inches to take damage, which can cause mass carnage to a well defended wall section of Minas Tirith.

I'm going to have to brush up on these rules...

When I have played huge Minas Tirith/Battle of the Pelennor fields battles using hundreds of miniatures, the first thing you wan't to do with Gondor is target the Mordor catapults and put every ounce of mughy into knocking them out as quickly as possible, before they smash holes in your walls, and decimating your troops who's cover now becomes a danger!

Absolutely! The good side can also upgrade the range on theirs so I'll have an advantage on that front. I need to make sure the other side are forced to use their battering ram to slowly break down the gate. He'll lose a lot of men bringing that big thing up.
