Aaaaahhhh! :)
And people wonder why I like large armies.
Though I do not have 21 Mumakil. He must own one Hell of a big house. They do take up a lot of space.
Oh, more photos PLEASE!!!

Total War Lord of the Rings hehe; and 18 Mumakil  I cannot imagine the time it took you to complete the battle.

Did the opposing armies interpenetrate each other, or only the front lines were clashing?

And welcome to the forum :).

Hi

So far the game has taken, 1 full day's play plus an evening session. With some clever rules selection, devices and event cards we've managed to speed up the game play massively. Allowing for some great action. The Gondor v Mordor table has been a more heavyweight clash, but with some quite heroic charges going in. While the Rohan table has been much more fluid with lots of maneouvering. But I'll describe how we put it all together when I make the video.

How did I miss this? It looks fantastic! Reminds me of a Battle for Middle-earth, the video game. It's like the battles from there have jumped off the screen on to the board.

The scenary is amazing too (yes, I'm staring at the ginormous ruined tower). Hope to see more shortly 8)

Hi

We used a combination of rules, which I will describe in more detail in the video. The unit marker bases are a new product on the market from Wargamer Aide de Camp.

We are hoping to get the Rohan table finished next week, but in the meantime here are some more pix of the action!

This is the kind of thing everyone on here dreams of doing. It must have taken forever to paint such a large collection to such a good standard.

Hi

Here is a link to view loads more pictures of the action on the Rohan table on day 1. Phil is actually the guy who painted a lot of the figures. Enjoy!

You used Hail Caesar? Interesting, I was expecting War of the Ring.

Hi

We did trial run a few games using War of the Ring but found it would take too long to play, plus some of the attending players would be unfamiliar with the rules. So we opted for Hail Caesar. Which worked really well and was quite fast paced. We also gave units lots of 'specials' as well.

However we did use Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Games for challenges and magic. So all in all it fitted together brilliantly.

Here is an example of one of the unit stat sheets so you can see how we did it.

Hi all

We finally managed to finish this epic encounter. What a fantastic end to a simply awesome game. The action continued on the Rohan table with Gandalf escorting Frodo and Sam, in an attempt to escape with 'The Ring'. Reinforcements did arrive to help out the beleaguered Rohan forces, who were under intense pressure from the Mumakil assault. There was some heroic action that you could not have written a script for, to bring the game to a close with a nailbiting finish. Here are some more pictures of the action.

And what of the result? ...Well I'm not going to spoil it for now, as I am making a video that has narration and pictures of all the action. As soon as that is done I will post the link here! In the meantime I hope you have enjoyed the pictures from this epic battle.

More soon

Thanks

That army of the dead was painted in a very cool way. Never seen a brown colour scheme on them before.
