That's the great thing about BOFA, you can hide some quite horrific cheese behind theme! :-) You just wait until Throne of Skulls, I'll show you what REAL BOFA theme is! Y'know, inexplicably taking a terrible choice of models in the name of the fluff despite every competitive bone in your body screaming NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

There are a lot of reeeeally competitive builds lining up for this weekend's tourney. I can think of at least 5 that I know of that I could see winning. It'll definitely be an interesting weekend....

Who's your top 5 Damian?

I'd actually put a bit of cash on yourself if I was a betting dude.

I haven't seen many weak lists to be honest, with the possible exception of Tom who's taking an intentionally hilariously bad list to try and win back his most charming crown. Of course the thing about Tom is that he's so damn good at the game that he can win with armies a lot of people would get trounced with.

But the five i was referring to (not in any particular order) were:

Jamie
Sam J
Ed (whatever he brings it's bound to be top-table friendly)
Mertaal
(and humbly) myself

All of those have what I think are the required elements to win at 1000 points. Owen's is also interesting although I think the mass of Laketowners will let him down when the lines clash, still, Bombur, Leggy, Gandalf, Alfred cheese is not to bit sniffed at and again, he's a good player who is always fighting for the top spots. Your Rohan could obviously do well, Gandalf is certainly a points sink but, like Theoden, that certainly doesn't mean he's not worth it. 45 points (I think) more than the Grey, all 6 of his spells get boosted and he gets a 12" stand fast? Worth it in my opinion. Tom used him to excellent effect at the Longbottom Carnival (he came 4th). So yeah, a very experienced all-Rohan army with Gandalf the White could certainly be an effective force.

They're just the ones I've heard about, there're obviously going to be a lot more armies/players there, any of whom could easily cause an upset. Is Charles going? He's due a good result.

It should be a fun weekend, been so long since I played some decent sized games, really looking forward to it, speaking of which - to the Facebook page! We need to sort Beer O'Clock!

I agree with you predictions, although you're being a bit nice to me there in reference to my force. Working through the scenarios 1-6 in that order doesn't really favour the all mounted numbers/fragility and there are going to be lots of forces there with the ingredients to beat it. However, I'm muchos looking forward to having some fun games! And hopefully play people I haven't played yet/much :)

I'm not there to win, I'm there to use a battle of the five armies themed list that won't finish last.
I think Damian has it down to a tee.
Those 5 are the hot favourites depending on who plays who and when. I'd expect Isengard to finish 2nd.

I won't win due to laketown and no malbeth. The ponies (and Gandalf's horse) were more to show off my conversions. I have an Oin on Pony who may come to ToS

James won't win because he is rohan

Kieran can't win because he never really tries, he is too busy making epic match ups happen in the name of theme.

I just realised I havent made a prediction yet...to the Q&A!

Anyway...to keep with the recurring BoFA theme I have gone for:

Thorin w/ toys
5 EW w/ shield
5 EW w/ spear & shield
EW w/ banner

Dwalin
5 EW w/ shield
6 EW w/ spear & shield

Balin
5 EW w/ shield
5 EW w/ spear

Legolas w/ cloak & armour
8 Mirkwood Rangers

BEORN!!!!

I don't need no stupid ponies :P Plus, there were no ponies at BoFA ;)

As much as I'd like to disagree with this statement I'm struggling to think of a point that counters it :P

I will admit I have not taken a force that will win at the weekend. I've really wanted to try out the White Council for a while now and the films are just making it worse :)

I have every anticipation that my list will be fun but it lacks some of the things that make all hero armies work, namely horses (not gonna rush painted mounted models as well).

There always are some pretty competitive armies at these tourneys now and the players behind those armies keep learning and getting better through all the practice playing in this league gives them.
Its only going to get worse gents...:P

Ben Lambert (the other half of accountasaurus rex with Adam Troke) uses all foot heroes on a regular basis. As long as you have blinding light you have a chance.

The ponies turned up after Bilbo got knocked out by the rock. They were totes crucial.

Nice list mate, that'll be really good fun to play with (and I reckon has a decent shot of doing well!)

Cool, that's good to know.

Think I'd be feeling more confident if the second last game wasn't recon. Trying to hold off an army with 7 models on a 6 by 4 will be a real struggle, never know though maybe someone will bring hobbits :P

In any case, assuming I get 4 heroes painted tomorrow I anticipate one hell of a fun event coming up :)

Nowt wrong with losing your penultimate game! Win the first 4, lost that one and drop down the tables a bit, smash all before you and then catapult past Owen for a podium finish - SUCCESS!

Indeed. At 600pts you have a good chance if you know what I'm saying

I do indeed. A bit of luck required as always is, but I do...

Great fun with this at the weekend! 1000 points is intense, lot's that can deal with all mounted Rohan at this level too, as expected! But achieved my target, which was top half, with three wins, three losses (8th out of 19) Going into last game on table three, a win should have got me third which would have been quite remarkable, but 1000 points wood elves with storm callers, thranduil, legolas, GotGC, Rumil at High Ground was a step too far.

At the same time, the other two losses were pretty close and with a bit more Wizard experience, I might have done even better than hoped!

Big thanks to all my opponents and to everyone who put up with me during another great tourney weekend.

I'll be doing a proper review for the channel obviously but thought I'd pop a little post in here to let you know how the list did :)

Glad I swapped out the 3 x RotN for more Redshields :)
