I went with Bill Ferny's Rohan archer. The free - hand just does it for me as it's something I cannot yet do.
I have definitely learned my lesson as I don't feel Vrasku photographs well

This has been an extremely difficult choice, some magnificent entries here.
In the end I have gone for Bill's Rohan for the following reasons
It stands up best to close up views, smooth painting and great detail work. The freehand, for all not perfect is very very good and deserving of my vote in a painting challenge.
Coenus and Rognarr were very close but didn't quiet match Bill's work for me but may I give my praise to you both for some of the better work I have seen from you.
Samoht's is an amazing sculpt and is sure to win the sculpting challenge.

It had to be Bolg for me, great paint job on a lovely sculpt however Coenus Scaldingus's Vidur the Dwarf warrior was nipping at his heels.

I'd like to have 4 or 5 votes this month. Very hard choice, Bolg for me but just!

Samoht's Bolg here too but Bill Ferny's is stunning too. Great work all round again guys - loads of entries and they're all really well painted :yay: 8) . . Looking forward to the next one.

Well done and good luck to everyone - this has the feeling of another tight call... :)

So many well painted! :yay: I regret not having a better camera :)

Although I love the Bolg sculpt, this is about painting, so I think I will vote for Billferny, although the dwarf warriors colours are also very well done ! Congrats to all with a well done job, If I find some time I will respond to each entry

This gets harder and harder to pick a winner every month.

TankySmoke30 - This is a fantastic effort for only your second ever miniature paint job. You have far exceeded my first attempt at this particular model. I couldn't even get the wings to stay on. Having seen this paint job in person I would say that you need to work on your photography a little as the pictures do not do the model justice. I can see very little of the base in the pics and its outstanding. Keep painting mate.
P.S - sad to see you go from work mate : (

FrogMortonJustice65 - This looks to be an excellent paint job on a very mediocre model in my opinion but again and no offense intended buddy but your pictures are letting you down. Try cropping the pics down so we get less background and more paint job. Fantastic work on the greens and cloak. Well done.

PowerOfWill - Your painting style I think I could pick out in a line of 100 random models. It has a really gritty realism which I always try (and fail) to achieve. Top class work from you here as usual. Great use of colour. The yellow ties the man and the banner in beautifully. You were in my top 5.

Joshuar_au - You are another entrant whose painting is improving with every model. Great work again on the eyes. I can find very little on this model to give and sort of constructive C&C as it is highlighted really well but is very subtle. I think this is one of those models that looks good in pictures but gret when its in front of you. Keep doing what your doing.

Coen - Another very distinctive and clean paint job from you. I love the dulled down plait armour - it looks great. The highlighting work on the cloak is fantastic, really smooth to the point where you can't see where the colours blend. Another in my top 5

Samoht - My my thats quite a sculpt you've come up with there. Absolutely awesome sculpt work. I am in awe of your talent. The paint job is good too although the skin looks a little rough in places. Maybe its just the photograph but it does look in places that the paint has been applied a little thickly at the highlight phase. Have you tried using glaize mediums mixed in with your paint when you highlight? although it takes a little longer to dry in between highlights it will smooth out the highlights and make the skin blend together better. No offense intended buddy - top class work.

Aranel7773 - Great work on Gandalfs robes, hair and beard. The white socks on the horse are also excellent. I feel that the brown on the horse could use a little more definition. Use a lighter brown and highlight the most prominent areas like the shoulders and neck etc. You can always dull the colour down a little to make the highlight more subtle with some watered down brown wash. Nice paint job on a nice model. Well done.

BillFerny333 - For me this is what the Painting challenge is all about. Your painting skills have gone crazy the last 6 months with the introduction of some insane freehand designs my mind is still blown by the white horse on the rohan guys cloak.... i hate you for being able to paint white horses so well ; )
Anyway - the gemstone, the incredibly subtle yet super effective highlight on the shield, the freehand on the cloak. An all round incredible paint job on a run of the mill archer. You my friend got my vote!
P.S did i mention I hate you .. darned white horses chunter chunter ...

Scipio_au - This I feel is a massively under rated paint job! The highlighting and shading work is awesome. Its really tough to paint with colours that light on a model where the cloak etc is so up and down if you get my meaning. Top quality work. I can't believe you haven't had a vote at this point. A long way to go. Your in my top 5

Mertaal - Fantastic paint job mate. You've really given the sculpt a lot more character!!! The robes, horse, face and base are all outstanding. Another top 5 for
me.

Reto - baah can i have 6 models in my top 5? lol. I love this piece too. The horse on the base is a really nice touch. The gore and innards look incredible. I love this piece and look forward to seeing more of your work. Keep it up buddy.

Bofur the Dwarf - Well painted model tho the pics make the paint job appear a lot darker than it is i think. Try taking pictures outdoors in natural daylight i think that will help a lot.

Rognarr - Hmm I need 7 spots in my top 5! Outstanding work again from you. You've done a really nice model justice by far. Extremely nice!!

Jelier - What looks to be a fantastic paint job although for some reason I find the pictures a little difficult to see. Maybe its just my eyes or the contrast on my pc. The pics look slightly out of focus which does not have a huge detrimental effect on them its just makes it more difficult to pick out the details. Love the shield.

JamesR - Not bad at all buddy on a pretty uninspiring model. Great work on the eyes, crossbow and skin but I feel you could have gone a stage further with the leather. Would really have made the model pop that little bit more.

What a great collection of paint jobs!

For me the stand out mentions are Rognarr, BillFerny333, Coenus Scaldingus and Powerofwill. I particularly liked the alternate Rohan colour scheme of the latter, as well as the big realistic looking base. Unfortunately the miniature itself is a little dark and hard to see, but I suspect that under the shadow of mordor is a better painted miniature than the photo would indicate. Great job, and you got my vote.

So nice to see that every month it's hard to pick out a winner, the standard is so high! Keep it up guys- it's a pleasure to see.

Kev: thanks for the mention and feedback. It's always nice to hear what people think about your work, so taking the time to give everyone personal feedback is really great. :D.

Billferny333 gets my vote, love the Bolg, but...its a painting competition, not a sculpting competition.

Another hard choice. I always feel a bit ashamed that I cannot give a second or third place nod to some of the runner-ups. Very nice work folks!
