Well, Boromir has a horn like the model, sort of!

Kravatis' Shade is incredible, what was it converted from? Warhammer Fantasy bitz?

Also, what on earth is with the Space Marine? Are 40K entries now permitted?

EDIT: just checked the Hobby Challenge sub forum, I take it this is an Open contest?

Personally I hope 40k doesn't become too regular. The models are far easier to paint as they're heroic scale

I don't have a problem with 40K entries but I'd prefer if they were separated from LOTR.

Loads of great stuff here as always but Rognarr's Lurtz steals it for me this month. Lovely muted, natural colour scheme without looking too dark - top stuff!

Well done all!

I really like Bernados Dragon for the bold scheme and good photography so I voted for him. High quality entries all round though

Many congratulations to you Rognarr, one of the best Lurtz and I am delighted for you. Your painting has come along a great deal and you are reaping the rewards.
Personally I'm delighted with the amount of votes I got and also a little disappointed to be brutally honest.
I pushed my limits with this painting and achieved my desire of creating a smooth blend between two extreme colours, which is a technique I've had to truly work on and is damn hard to achieve. The blending had been rated as first class by top painters on CMON !
Unfortunately I received a bit of criticism for my colour choice amongst things, which misses the point of what I was trying to do. These things perhaps hampered my entry, but such is life. For example it was commented about the straight blue line but there simply is not one on the model, look close, it disappears under the rock ! I accept there could be areas to improve on and that is what I will take on board.
Maybe I should have done some closer photos ?
However, try again I will, though this month isn't for me, I will see what future subjects come up.
Once again though, really delighted for you mate, I've seen you develop from your early work and you have really brought your work toward new heights.

First of all many thanks for the votes. I still cannot really believe the result and if you asked me, my bets would have been on Gandlaf winning this challenge. His piece is masterclass and I can fully understand his disappointment. Maybe it was indeed the bold choice of colours that swayed the vote, but I really liked the idea behind it. And once more, I want to thank you for your kind words Gandlaf! I really appreciate you following my work, giving tips and criticism, when it's needed :)

Dat Lurtz. It is very rare for someone to actually paint Lurtz dark enough and pull it off.
